Hi, I have a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Newcastle 800MHz HT Socket 754 processor and I want a new motherboard and a pretty decent PCI-E video card. Right now I have a 9800pro AGP 128mb and am looking for some more oomph. Money is not unlimited so I'd like a good price to performance ratio. Any ideas?

id get the 939 socket and at least the 3200 with a 7800 gt. thats what i got

What are the advantages for the higher socket number? Is my processor bad?

ignore him, anyway...
what country are you from?
do you want an SLI/crossfire board or just one PCI- express slot? would you like to stay with ATI? what speed memory have you got?

kthx

go with a dfi NF4 X-infinity or an asus (idk remember the whole name) those are the 2 best 754 motherboards. also get a 7800gt/7900gt

If you want to upgrade and invest into a new MOBO with PCIx/SLI, why are you still stuck with that 754?

754 is being faced-out as we post now, so better fish little deeper and get a decent 939 ASUS, MSI or DFI MOBO, and then see if you can even dig more deeper and set yourself up for SLI.
7900 is bit better, less expensive than 7800GTX (Last time I checked).

Common man, go for it. If I can't afford em now I would like you to have em.

939 is on it's way out (eventually down the road) as the amd M socket will be debuting soon but it still has lots of life left. If you want more oomph in games just get a better video card ..the other alternative is that you start from scratch ...buying another 754 mobo is a waste of money imho

if you want pci-e you need to buy a 939 mobo, meaning you need a new cpu ..and probably a new power supply to run your pci-e card

socket 754 is perfectly fine he dosent need the very highest stuff

But sorry 754 is dying and if you want to upgrade why still stuck on the same socket.....You're one of those guys who don't like to get married and hate divorces aren't ya?

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the help. I think I'll just get a better AGP card for now as I don't have too much cash to upgrade with right now. I have 1GB DDR 400 memory. I'm not worried about sticking with ATI/Nvidia, I don't really care. What's a good AGP video card for the price/performance ratio?

thanks.
