PC Probe II is giving me a siren noise when I open it saying my Mobo is too hot, under load I think it goes to 38c+, is this ok? I was getting some chops/lag in TF2 right before and I was also kind of wondering if this could have anything to do with it.

yes that would be a serious problem. you can check to see if your fan is out on your chipset(it would be on the bottom right of the board. that would be causing the problem and not cooling it.

I'm on a P5E and there's no on board chipset fan, just a crapton of giant copper heatsink things. Again nothing else seems overtly wrong with the PC, the chops in TF2 could have been entirely unrelated. But yeah.. not sure how to get those temps down other than maybe installing some 120mm fans into the fan drawer. From what I've read it's not necessarily a problem and new boards just run kind of hot.. but I'm still kinda worried.

update: it appears the chops happen in other games too, they just seem more rare.. it also seems my comp makes a powering down whirring noise from time to time.. but it doesn't seem to affect performance. I hope I don't need to RMA the board.

38 degrees under load should be fine, it is your CPU and Graphics card that are usually the hottest - I'd check those under load and if they are fine you have nothing to worry about.

My motherboard idles at 45C, is that bad its always been like that and it seems fine.

38C is about 80F which is close to room temperature, you should be fine. Do you know when it says mobo temp if its actually measuring the chipset?

No clue, it's under MB TEMP on PC Probe II, the software that came with my P5E. The siren just kind of scared me when I turned on PC Probe =/

The default safe temp (on PC Probe II) is anything below 32c, that can't be right can it?

35 degrees is normal for PWMIC chips and chipsets, just increase the MB temperature threshold to 45 degrees and PC probe wont go off.

There are many other factors which will contribute to PWMIC chips and chipsets temperature, one thing you can do to overcome this is to have a case panel fan, but don't worry and try not to loose too many sleeps on this; most MB chipsets run 35 degrees.

Good Luck.

Put it this way my motherboards temperature monitor (the one that came with the motherboard) has the alarm default to coming on at 48 degrees.

80F? Ahaha no. 38C is 100F easy, room temperature my arse. Maybe in summer without aircon. Summer in February where I live is fun, frequent days of 40-45 (105-115)

So the chops seem to coincide with harddrive activity... hmph, I've tried defragging.. maybe I'll have to RMA it.

Also the MB seems to regularly go upwards of 40c now. Damnit, I wish everything would just work.

It is working. 30 to low 40s is 100% fine for a motherboard. Lag in TF2 could be caused by any manner of things and without specific hardware specs it's hard to help you there.

According to speedfan my system is sitting at 43C whilst the CPU cores are at 35C all within standard operating temperatures. Funny though one of my old HDDs is sitting at 60C I need to replace that one.

The chops are happening in all graphics intensive apps. Also it seems my Power LED has never worked.. I just noticed haha.

Make sure the Power LED lead is plugged into the right spot on your mobo then. As for choppiness;

1. System specs.
2. Drivers all installed? Chipset, Video etc
3. Fresh OS install?

Whatever, its not my fault your foreigners use some weird measurement system. But here in New Mexico during the summer you leave your AC off and 100F is pretty much room temp.

Anyway, an IC running at 100F is usually nothing to worry about. To be sure post the exact model number of your mother board so we can look up the specs.

Obnoxious; An American will always see a non-American "A Foreigner" even when they don't live in New Mexico. Nonetheless, the name "Foreigner" does not apply on the Internet; everyone is typing from their home.
It's extraordinary, this "Weird" measurement you speak of have been in-use longer than your perfect normal, non-weird, American measurements, and its only you (Americans), the only country using it, even your neighbors (Canada and Mexico) refused to using it.

Take Care.
