Mod idea: Car pursuit

I don't know if it was thought before.
I came up with an idea while playing GTA yesterday: How about a multiplayer car pursuit mod? A player (maybe he's a bank robber) is using a motorbike/a sports car and the other players have police cars. The bank robber is escaping from the police. There are also other vehicles in the traffic which the players can steal.
Also it may be a deathmatch mod.
Yes, do you think it is a good idea? And is Half-Life 2 engine able for such a mod which includes lots of cars?
 
Honestly, this mod wouldn't be possible with the Half Life engine, if you wanted it to work right and look good. Maybe another game? Sorry.
 
Half-Life 2 would be capable of doing this.
 
IF you just intend to do the car thing, and from a GTA type view, top down, and your not bothered about accurate physics, and you don't plan to have all that many details in your map. Then its possible. But you'll be sacrificing a great deal.
 
It'd be rather hard, you'd have to take your scaled down maps(quarter mile cubed maps arn't very big when you're jetting around a city, scale would probably have to be 1/10, which would be just fine if you consider texture size support in HL2)

Thats along the lines that I was thinking... it wouldn't be impossible, just not... worth it. Since the Half Life engine is aimed at something different, I just think it would be kinda stupid to make something that doesn't follow it.

I'm just saying... use something that has a different visablity determination system or whatever its called, since HL is totally different from GTA.

Where did he say it would be top-down?

All he's said is that you would chase people in a vehicle... HL2 already has a buggy in it, and HL Rally has a gamemode where you chase other players. So i'd say you could do this...

How about some more info Gord?
 
HL Rally is different than a game where you run around in a city and can stop and look at the scenery, correct? It would be fine if you were stuck in the vehicle, but I was thinking that he would like it if you could get out and walk. Which, in my opinion, wouldn't be worth it.
 
Nevertheless, it'll be hard. It'd get rather boring in near empty servers without having NPCs around that act realistically.

Actually it was just an idea. I hadn't designed the details of the game yet.
Yes, it would be FPS.
I thought of a mod which we will be able to run in the streets and steal any car if our car had been broken down. But I think it would be very hard with HL 2.
