hey all,
you guessed it, another mod idea. but not to worry, this isnt a 'hey you guys should do this, itll be coo!" kind of thread, its more like a "hey ive got an idea, ill post it up on the board and if someone likes it maybe they can run with it" kind.
now i WOULD have put this in a "mod ideas" thread or portion of the forum, unfortunately there isnt one. so i assumed this would be the best place to put it.
maybe this will inspire someone, maybe this will get picked up...i dont know. but id like to at least give my ideas out so maybe there can be a wide patette of ideas circulating.
so lets get to it:
Race The Desert.
i used to play alot of Operation Flashpoint a little while back, not really online or anything, but i did love making my own little custom maps, scenarios and what not... the maps were huge, the terrain was realistic and the a.i. was somewhat smart....although limited.
after i got tired of 'attack town" style maps i began to look for different way to entertain myself inside the game...so i created a map on one of the downlaoded maps you get from operation flashpoint cz, i dont remember what the name was but who cares.
the idea was that it was a race, a Lancia Stratos, Subaru impreza, a 4 wheeler (resistance) and a few US Army dirtbikes would go from point to point, traverse the terrain, and eventually meet up at a predestined place where i set up some triggers that would broadcast who came in first.
while the lancia always won i really got into the idea of a really LONG distance rally, Dakar rally if you will (i dont know much about it) but for a long and extended period of time, the racers set off across the desert to traverse the terain, avoid obstacles and try to come in first.
there are no predetermined routes, there are no gas stations, no pit stops, limited supplies and constant movement.
while this may not suit some people (who would want to drive from point a to point z (not b, but z, halfway across the desert) it might appeal to some people.
i figure, since a desert really has nothing to it, a few cacti, a lizard...maybe a wiley coyote, the mod could be both really long (to beat) and have very large areas to traverse before any loading screens come up
now im in no way a modder of any kind (although over the years i have tried my hand at modding different kinds of games) so i dont know if my theory about huge open spaces and long times between loading screens is realistic.
so thats pretty much it, take a modified vehicle, set out across the unforgiving desert, no food, no water, limited gas, and try to reach the end. along the way you might need to find gas, repair parts, find new parts, avoid desert raiders, fix tires and avoid giant cliffs and sandtraps....
simple. although im sure its quite harder than it seems.
i hope someone picks up this idea and tinkers with it...
thats all.
