Mod Idea...

dunno if this has been thought of before, but I had an idea about a cool mod idea... not sure if it's even possible, as I'm no coder, but what if the player would slow down as he took damage? Would be more realistic in a sense, since someone who's clinging on to his last shred of life couldn't possibly run, and, in an objective based team game, would add another thing to consider in planning your tactics. This could even be combined with a change in to the player models, where as you took damage your model started to limp...

Thoughts???

It's a good idea in theory, but the times its been tried in the past its ended up annoying more people than it appealed to. Get a lot of claims of "its not fair!!" and such. :(

hrmmm, guess that doesn't mean it couldn't be done right... :) do you remember what the complaints were specificly referring to?

id say if its a big map and someone is low on health...they arent really going to be moving, just waiting for someone to kill them to put them out of their misery...could turn into something like a LONG spectator round of CS.

Eh, CS does it - you can barely move while you're getting shot.

As for permanent slow-age, it sounds good in theory but it would really detract a lot from gameplay and generally just not be very much fun.

Well as I already said, and as Sabre0001 said.

There's certainly nothing stopping you from doing it, its quite possible with a bit of coding. But then so is making it possible for players to kick other players in a game. Both sound fun, but neither is popular in practice.

The complaints were simply the whole unfairness, yes its realistic, you would start to limp and slow down, well actually after probably just one shot you'd probably drop to the ground and not even want to crawl if you wanted to go for real realism. But basically it would do what sabre says, bring about people letting themselves get shot so they don't have to struggle.

I remember an old game that had something like this in, was very realistically made, so you could break your legs, they could become infected, or you could lose a leg or an arm and so on and it would effect how you could play the game. It was a novelty and fun for a few minutes, but soon bored a lot of people, I thought it was great the level of detail it had, but it soon bored me too.

You could forget it working with any kind of fast paced action, once your shot and start to slow down your a sitting duck to the enemy and people will get very annoyed at how other players pick you off easily to up their score. It'll probably get known as a duckshoot. While "in theory" the idea is sound and would push players into taking more care while playing and using better tactics, the sad fact is your not likely to find that kind of gamer these days unless you aim for the roleplayer types. Avoid the console gamers or those who would rather just press a button of firey death at other players and doesn't know what crouch or hide means.

So yeah, its a nice idea, but its not very popular, games that have tried it in the past are pretty much forgotton now.

I hate it in CS so I will hate in HL2 :|

I see... well, thanks for explaining this to me... I'm a noob to CS in general and wasn't aware that this topic had already been discussed at length...

I've not seen it discussed much before tbh. Just the general feeling that its a cool idea but few like it.

Course if your mod was an RPG and really in depth, you'd probably have far more success using it, the only problem there is the people who'd play that would demand a LOT of detail went into it, such as Robinsons Requiem (that game I mentioned above) which you can DL now from underdogs if you fancy checking it out and seeing how it was done in there, great game really but you'll likely see where the problems are with it.
