I am keeping the mod under wraps to only those that are working on the mod until we have a full mod team and a website up. We already have two mappers and modellers and are now looking for a few coders and a webmaster. PM me or email me at [email protected] for info on the mod if you want in on our mod team! Thanks!

We need artists also... Thanks :)

Yeah, tell us more. There are enough mods that it would take us people looking to join one several hundred years and more patience then a Tibetan monk to email every single one. Whats the point of being "under wraps" anyway?

alright well then i guess i will just search quietly for people rather tahn posting... sorry

'coder' not 'coders' - armanguy, what happend to your Conker ripoff mod?

um how does "a few coder" work better than "a few coders".

I think you know what he meant, man. Too many coders = bad seems to be a popular opinion around here (I wouldn't know, though)

Merc, I don't think you should expect a bunch of people to be joining up with this mysterious mod. Maybe just a little story would help?

Maybe it's mysterious because he saw a few intresting features during his playtest that are secret, but fantastic ideas to base a mod round......

i dont want the idea for our mod to be stolen..

-merc

no ones going to steal your idea merc, if they do it makes them look extremely bad. but its up to you, if you want to generate some interest you better spill the beans on your mod.

Well, it's inevitable that someone's already got a similar idea, and I sure as hell doubt that whatever idea you've got is so unique that people knowing about it will cause people to get hysterical. I mean, everyone knows I'm doing a true RTS for HL2, but I'm not worried about competition because most mod teams aren't dedicated enough to ever actually produce something.
Pray, tell us.

I think you have too much faith in the goodwill of the community. Way too much. And an easy way for them to get outta looking bad for stealing an idea would jsut be to implement it better.

Merc: yeah, it's not a bad Idea to keep it under wraps, but you have to AT LEAST give some general information, such as genre, timesetting, etc.

Alright, here is the deal... It is a gang wars type mod and is based on times nowadays. There are going to be drive bys in streets and you have to control different blocks like conquest mode in BF1942... With different blocks, you can gain access to different drug dealers who you can buy drugs from. These drugs are like "powerups" in that you can have less recoil, run faster, etc. etc.... anyways, we might be adding some a third cop team to patrol the streets... we havent quite finished up all the ideas, but that is the general idea... it is a gritty backalley gangster shooter war with glocks, aks, uzis, the classic gangster guns :) anyone interested?

thats how everything gets better. at some point, everything was copied and improved. from intel, you have amd. from the model t, you evolve to corvettes, bmw's etc. from world war 2 bombers you have civilian transports, and new companies arising from that. if someone implements your mods idea better, thats really just tough. at some point hes going to have to say something about his mod, so he might as well make it now. this a pretty basic capitalistic concept, and a very good one too.

sound slike a cool-ish idea....although it sounds very similar to what entropy mod was gonna do (although thiers was gonna be on a much larger scale and we haven't heard from them in half a year).

It's a fairly simple concept, it could be a fun type thing.... although I'd make the po-po AI, not player controlled.

It isnt really as novel as you made it appear, as the whole gangster type of mod is pretty commonly done. Though you appear to have some good ideas, and it'd be neat to see the mod. I would make the pigs AI controlled as well.

i have never playn any gangster war mods... anyone know of one? also is anyone interested in working with us? thanks for the suggestions guys!

I've seen a number of gangster mods suggested, many of them very similar to what you have in mind. And your unique spin - the use of drugs as powerups - is being implemented into the playstation game 'Narc' or something. See? No worries about folks copying you, as the idea isn't nearly as original as you thought. But, if you put devotion, effort, and skill into the game, maybe it'll take off.

Sorry if I seem bitter (because I am), but my CD player just ate my favourite Bon Jovi cd...

You do know thats pretty much exactly what HL2's engine isn't designed for.. but good luck to you :)

isnt designed for space combat either badger :)
No, but onions, I know what you're doing ;)

And city blocks etc.. it's not a good idea. You have an idea of the constraints of the engine.

merc, just wondering, what will you, personally be bringing to this :)

I am letting you all know now that I have never made a mod before, I am learning everything as I go now, but I plan on making maps and models for the mod.

-merc

why you aint on msn man cmon.
also hey everyone has to start somewhere:)

Well, people do have to start somewhere, but I suggest you have at least a little experience mapping or modeling before you put together a team. That is, if you want to get this released and played by lots of people. I mean, it would be fine if you were just giving this to a few friends, but the general public would probably prefer you to have experience.

Please don't think I'm making fun of you or anything, but I am correct in assuming you just started? (I read stuff in other threads) I just think people need some experience before trying to start a mod. (Like me  )

Maybe you could try making a Half Life single player map first (thats where I recommend everyone starts in mapping). Or a CS map, or a DoD one, or a HLDM map. Trust me, with every map you make, you get a whole lot better. Or you could model, but I don't know anything 'bout that. :)

Armanguy, he has AIM, right? Do you?

aim blows i hat that thing MSN messenger all the way.

Couldn't say, never tried it, although I think that AIM does the trick and a lot of people have it.

Your welcome for the input, if you want me to help you compile your maps, you can ask and I'll give you a tutorial. :) I'll try, at least.
