I was just watching James May's attempt to build a 10 Mile track connection between Barnstaple and Bideford in just a day. He failed to get the trains to travel all that way, but given that he had to face the rain in the morning, somebody stealing car batteries that run the line and people placing coins on the track to short out the line, the train that managed to go the furthest stopped 3 miles short of its target
I found this link to a model railway in Germany which hopes to be the longest model railway in 2014, though its not clear weather thats to given scale, continous stretch of line or all lines combined or weather the model railway is housed on more than one floor of the building.

Link to articleAn attempt by the BBC presenter James May to build the world’s longest model railway has been derailed by vandals and thieves.
May recruited 400 volunteers to build ten miles of track along the Tarka Trail in North Devon for a new BBC Two series Toy Stories.
