I was looking for a tutorial on how to make a handgun with XSI. People i have talked to said XSI or horrible for making models, i just wanted to know if this is true? I have no money to buy software so id rather try and learn with XSI if thats possible... neone have any suggestions?

you can model with xsi, and basicly do whatever is needed for modding hl2
although a bit hard if youre used to 3dsmax, learning xsi is possible
myself is used to 3dsmax and i find it a bit hard to learn xsi, but im progressing.
try http://www.3dbuzz.com for a couple xsi tutorials on modeling and other goodies

It is not true that XSI is bad for making guns, infact XSI is one of the best modelers around with Lightwave and 3dsmax. It is only very recently finding its place among home users because of the price drop of the Foundation version from about $1500 to $500.

There are a bunch of XSI tutorials on this site:

Some are for older versions, some for newer, just check it out.

good luck
