I keep hearing lots of discussion on many talk shows lately on these "natural" doctors who use natural herbs and stuff like coral(sp?) calcium and that it's more effective than modern drugs and treatments given by doctors of today. That it actually cures people as opposed to just suppressing the symptoms. What do you guys think? Are they bullshit or the real deal?

Both. Sometimes they can cure a specific ailment in twenty minutes, in other times, they simply suppress the symptoms (something that modern doctors are exactly accused of :p)

It's the same for modern health products, actually.

natural doctors are ok to get supplements or when you have a cold ...but you wouldnt go to one if you needed open heart sugery or had rectal cancer

Bah thought this thread had a video of the two in a fight to the death.

/me walks off.

rectal cancer ftl...

Niether would win because they'd keep healing eachother. :O

I had Xmer on my hands for about 5 years... no matter what "artificial" creams / ointments were used, it never went away. Until I tried a Chinese Herbalists... and it went within 2 months. Scince then it's never came back... ever.

Home remedies are good for rashes and colds but if I was ill I wouldn't go to a bloody 'natural doctor'.

And WTF is up with this Alo-Vera crap? I mean It's being put into everything. They have the same stuff in chap-stick and washing up liquid. Last time I checked putting washing up liquid in your mouth was bad.

Aloe is a plant. Lots of people believe it can do stuff to heal the body in many ways... and there is alot of controversy on whether this is even true or not... could just very well be a marketing gimmick.

"Lookit this purty flower I found, lets stuff it in our products." All natural healing agent, NOW WITH Black Nightshade!

I don't know, for natural medicines there's literally millions of combinations of different products/herbs/things that are supposed to affect the body in different ways.

So it's pretty much impossible to set up an effective clinical trial system in this way.

It's almost a question of faith I think, but I have actually experienced some herbal remedies that have done the job required.

There needs to be more dialogue between Eastern and Western medicine practices I think. They could complement each other very well.

Homeopathic medecine works well for me :)

However, I'm allergic to Aloe Vera.. of all things. Aloe Vera..

;O

Now I know what to give ComradeBadger for his birthday :)

Well, like said before, natural doctors are good for rashes, but when you got some serious wounds, I prefer a normal doctor.

Rashes down there?

Most of it is Placebo effect (homepothy).

Some of it however, can be effective.
Especially chinese herbalist's. Only becuase of the vitamins the stuff contains.

cuts, cold, infection, burns, i think a natural is better, but id only go to a real doctor if i broke something, amputated leg or arm, or anything serious.

aloe vera is just a kind of cactus like plant that's got green goo inside of it. I've got one at home. It's good for your skin. I use aloe vera shaving gel
