So yeah, the new Mogwai has leaked and it's, y'know, fantastic. This has really caught me off guard as the steady trickle of new Mogwai material - the Batcat EP, Live at the Off Festival bootleg - hasn't been so great, save maybe the track Devil Rides, but this is really something and this is after just one listen.

It's hard to really give it a fair judge after the masterclass that was Mr Beast, but this has really followed on well, though it's a bit 50/50 on the style. It's still got the wonderfull piano tinkerings and beautiful electronic soundscapes that sweep across the background of every gentle guitar chord or bass strum, but that said, it's a lot more guitar based, much like Come on die young which is nothing to complain about. Overall, it's a solid release that I can see appearing in my top five of 2008, but I've yet to give it an in depth listen. At the moment though, 8/10.

If you're interested in hearing it, PM me for details.

Interesting. Gonna check it out :)

(the little green demon with the stupid grin has it...)

I've only heard two songs from it so far, the one they released for free The Sun Smells Too Loud and Batcat on youtube. I like TSSTL but didn't really like Batcat.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah. :D

Sounding very Mr. Beast but more guitary. Also kind of a bit more... happy? Or maybe just not as raw (MOAR GLASGOW MEGASNAKE PLZ).

Still half the album to go, at any rate.

Edit - I just realised there's no singing. What up with that?

Yeah, I minus'd a point for no singing. No Travel is Dangerous like track is a big let-down, but on the whole it's a fantastic album in my opinion.

The Sun Smells Too Loud = happiest Mogwai track evar? /bounces

Meh, not enjoying it so much, I love the first song and still like The Sun.... but the rest just seems bland so far, but you could always accuse Mogwai of that.

I generally only like a few songs off each of their albums and since they have alot that makes up a good few sweet tracks but alot just seems aimless and dull. Atm this album feels like that :|

i can see where your coming from... but theres really only one of those tracks on mr. beast that really makes me itch to skip.

im sad to hear no lyrics, because thats what really made Travel is Dangerous amazing, and one of my favorite songs of all time.

They have some records with Sigur Ros, Record 2 is pretty damn good.
