Monitor and your eyes?

I have a really good friend i got back in contact with..we met on CS and he told me that he couldnt play anygames anymore because if he plays them more than 30min his eyes would go red and hurt.

im thinking this is due to refresh rate? hes on a nvidia geforce 2.
what else could it be? anyone had the same problem?

Sometimes get sore eyes, but its just because I am doing a computer science degree and I am infront of a PC for most of the day, just need to take regular breaks and lower the brightness of the monitor. He should go to teh opticians.

go to the opticians, if they can't heklp get a TFT minotor, they don't refresh like a CRT and cause far less strain on the eyes, the graphics card doesn't change how many times per second the screen redraws itself so if anything it's the monitor

make sure the refresh rate is at least 75Hz, preferably 80Hz minimum.
also turn down the brightness and adjust the contrast levels, monitors too bright hurt my eyes, and im very sensitive to low refresh rates, even the TV bugs me at times.
