Any way I can replace this, that you guys know? My monitor is a ViewSonic UltraBrite A90f+

Connects to my computer via VGA cable.

I keep it tight, but it still flickers sometimes... annoying the hell out of me until I fiddle with it and find a sweet spot until the next time it does it.

A problem with the pins maybe? I don't know anything about the cable coming out of a monitor... if I can replace it or whatever or if I should.

ya its the cable, vga can have alot of problems with interference and ive had a problem where if you bend it a certain way then one of the colors wont show up correctly.

Random semi-related tidbit:

On rare occasions when I turn on my monitor, the screen position/sizing is way off. When I go to adjust it, the moment I change one of the values by one increment, it fixes itself back to normal. Or I can turn the monitor off and on again.

It's not really a problem to complain about but I was just curious if anyone has heard of this.

Sounds like you might be able to fix it, I mean, it's a bunch of wires bscly.

Going to require downtime, solder and solder iron at the least, and possibly a new cable.

Might just deal with it and start saving. I hear those LCD's don't last that long without repair anyway.

I have the same problem, usually its only a few days after I update my graphix drivers.

I am no good at soldering... :(

And I don't have an LCD. I have a CRT monitor. It's gigantic just the way I like it... a huge block on my desk :(

I'm not sure if this is covered already, so am just going to throw it out there: Did you make sure the problem isn't actually coming from the graphic card; driver or maybe hardware related issue than monitor?

Good Luck.

That's what I initially though too. Maybe the GPUs are dying. Then again, If Raz has another monitor to try, and he's not getting the same problem with that monitor, then it's not the video cards/drivers. Use the same VGA cable with another monitor, or a different cable with a different monitor, if at all possible. Makes troubleshooting alot easier.

What he described though really sounded like a CRT specific problem to me though. I'd wager the monitor is about to kick the bucket.

It's coming from the monitor. I think something with the cable. The monitor still works beautifully. I mean it's still running perfectly fine. Just occasionally those yellow flickers which I know is coming from the cable. I wish I could just easily swap out the cable.

It does it occasionally on my xbox 360 as well, so I know it's the monitor not my graphics card. As it's also done it on my previous 9800 pro as well in the past before it burned out.

I had a 17" Viewsonic CRT (3-4 years ago?) that started to flicker yellow. Messing with the cables did nothing for mine. I even took it apart carefully to see if I could see anything loose. I found that if I hit the top of the frame that it would go back to normal. But that lasted less and less. Finally it stuck yellow. It seemed to be the electronic gun that went out in that one.

That's what I though too. The RGB photon guns that paints certain colors. In Raz's case, which ever one that paints every other color but yellow(s).

Now that I think about it, it was actually a 19" and probably the same model as yours. Except all black (A90f+b ?)
I still have my 17" viewsonic screens.

ViewSonic makes great LCDs in my experience so far. No complaints from the '19 one I've had for nearly two years now. Except the contrast of course.

LCDs in general really should improve in that department tbh. A different source of back-lighting maybe rather than using flourecent bulbs.

Heard OLED technology will eventually replace LCDs for this reason once it's distributed commercially. OLEDs have their own lighting source and don't require a backlight.
This would mean even thinner monitors/TVs too.

But when I wiggle the cable, it either causes or temporarily solves the problem.

Honestly, I don't think it's the gun that is the problem.

I had a similar problem with my Gamecube's video cable that would cause dark moving "ripples" across the screen unless I wiggled it or positioned it a certain way until the ripples came back.

I lived with it for awhile until I finally decided to take it out to my dad's shop to blow it out with an air compressor. The dust that came out of that thing looked like a disappearing ninja's act. Plugged it back in and found that the problem was solved.

The circuitry in your monitor may need to be dusted, so try that too. Electronics don't like dust.

Remember, try all the simple solutions first. The problem might just be right under your nose. (Or in it)

Your solution to getting the monitor to temporary work properly is different than mine was. So it could be the cable. But if it is the cable, I'm surprised that the ONLY issue is that the monitor turns yellow. There are 15pins for green, red, blue and sync info. Red and Green make yellow, right? So that would mean just the BLUE pin or wire is messing up if it's the cable. No sync issues?
picture and pinout on bottom right

Time will tell anyway. IMO it's not worth trying to fixing beyond the basics.

Man.. I haven't ever dusted out my monitor. Have owned it for years and years now.

How do you dust out a monitor anyways?

Do you or anyone close to you, own an air compressor? Just position the hose through the vents on the top or back of the monitor and squeeze the trigger. Simple.

That is a pretty cool idea. If you could use a long and narrow straw-like tube to deliver air farther inside would be a plus. Just don't let the damn thing fall inside. :O

Just make sure the monitor is off and let it stay off for awhile after dusting; because where there's air there's also water.

Good Luck.
