Recently I've noticed on my monitor what appear to be shadowy lines moving up and down the screen. Initially they are faint but gradually deteriorate until the edges of the screen are "wobbling" and as a result reading anything on the screen is difficult.

I've tried degaussing it but this doesn't seem to help; so I'm not sure whether I'm experiencing a graphics card or monitor fault. I've searched around on the forums but no one seems to have had this problem before; I'd be grateful if anyone could help me out.

My graphics card is an Inno 3D GeForce 4 Ti4200 and the monitor is currently running at 85Hz. This problem has spontaneously started taking place after about six months of using these settings.

My guess is 1 of 2 things happened.

1) Your video card overheated and was damaged. I had a GF2 that the fan died on and it overheated. I had dark lines across my monitor.

2) Your monitor is dying.

Either way test the monitor on another computer and test another monitor on your video card and you will have your answer. GL HF

This is what i would do to try to find where the problem is. If you have another working video card laying around swap it out for the Ti4200 and see if you have the same problem. If you do, it's the monitor, if you dont it's the video card.

Best bet is interference.
Could always up the refresh rate but that doesn't always work.
Usually band lines on monitors are the result of the difference in frequency between devices or crossing cords.

Maybe move your monitor a bit or adjust where the cords.

Thanks for the help; fortunately the lines have faded almost completely in the last few days, but I'll keep this advice in mind should it happen again.

get a plasma monitor, i dought a 3000 dollar monitor will mess up anytime soon
