Monitor resolution changes

Ok so my problem is, that almost everytime, I exit a game/program, or log back onto my computer, the resolution changes to 1280 by 720 from 1280 by 960. It's getting really annoying, does anyone have a solution to this? Thank you

Windows vista ultimate 32bit, Dell flat screen 2208WFP Digital, Nvidia 8800gt.

reinstall your driver. Sounds like its just having a hard time to come back from other resolutions, which may be because of a corrupted driver. Run Driver Cleaner first to make sure you get rid of the old junk files first though.

I'm not sure why it is not keeping your setting but it could be something to do with the fact that 1280x960 is a normal monitor resolution and not widescreen. Maybe there is a setting that is checked that it is trying to correct the screen or fill in the space or adjust the ratio.

I believe 1680 x 1050 is the native resolution on that lcd. Why use 1280x960 on a widescreen lcd? That's a 4:3 ratio for 'square' monitors. I'm not even sure if LCDs do that. I think it's just for CRTs.
