Just intalled my new x850pro and the bios started continually beeping. The monitor fired up and it went into windows but the beeping continued...

I restarted and went into the bios, and saved changes and exited to see if that helped (sometimes it can stop the health monitor from freaking out apparently :S). The light on the monitor then went off and the beeping continued...wtf

Ive tried moving the jumper over next to the battery to reset the CL (move the jumper over to the left, turn the power on and off a few times, then move it back over and turn it on) and that hasnt worked. I even removed the card altogether so nothing was in it, turned it on and the bios beeps again. a continual, repetitively slow-paced beep.

Im currently waiting for the battery to drain (ive taken that out to reset the bios to factory default), does anyone have any ideas? I put my old 9800pro back in to see if it was the new card causing the error, but i still get a dead screen and a beeping bios, even though about an hour ago it fired up fine with the 9800 in it...Im screaming here.

I have a 500w PSU, so i doubt power supply is the problem???

I'd check all your connections. Maybe you knocked out some RAM, maybe the card isn't inserted all the way... you never know until you check them all.

Also, look up your motherboard manual on the net, and find out what the beeps mean. They're all coded like morse code, and it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer

I agree. Peeping is 100% hardware related. back track and think of what you did.
Maybe card isn't inserted right, memory modules moved by your hand while inserting card, BIOS setting (V-Card slot) isn't enabled or isn't primary, Power-cable isn't plugged into V-card.
Your main focus should be directed to hardware.

Good Luck.

Pushed in every possible connection, but i doubt its that. I mean, all i did was take out the 9800pro, then put the x850 in and use the new cable that comes with it to reconnect to the HD, card and a spare power connection. It WORKED, but the bios beeped.

I didnt change anything in the bios, saved changes to exit and the monitor just died. No yellow standby light, nothing. I know the new card works because the fan turns on.

Plugging in the bios battery again now to see what happens...

Put the battery back in and the monitor still wont even go into standby mode...and the bios is still beeping. Im pretty sure all the connections are in, everything is firing up etc.

Sounds like a RAM error beep. If you take out the ram and the error is the same, it's probably faulty ram. Depending on how many ram modules you use, try fiddling with using only one; if that doesn't work, use the other; use other ram altogether etc.

Take out the new V-card and put back the old V-card and fire up. If BIOS posts and system starts then you have V-card issue.

Good Luck.

if theres no display then it might be your power....

make sure the Power supply is giving the video card enough juice.

I have a 500watt psu so that cant be it surely?

I tried the old v-card in, no change. Disconnected everything (except the RAM and CPU so i may try the RAM), only to realise no matter what you have connected, if the v-card isnt installed, the bios will beep continuously anyway.

Im sending it to a tech mate back home (im at Uni atm), who is going to try and sort it by using different mobos etc. What is REALLY confusing me is how the monitor now wont turn on at all even if i try it on the laptop i have.

I just had an issue with a PC I built and I could not get any signal to the monitor although it seemed to boot and beep.

I've replaced every component and it seems to be the RAM so I'm picking more up today.

I would suggest changing RAM especially since it isn't hard or time consuming.

BIOS checks Cmos for date/time and settings, then BIOS checks system components, since last boot (New/missing hardware, volt settings) if all components and settings signal GO, and everything is the same since last shut-down, then BIOS turns on the computer by posting and sending signal to monitor, (At this moments you will see BIOS flash screen) and then it checks for OS boot-sequence (MBR) (Or any boot-able drive CD/Floppy/NIC).
If there is any new/missing hardware, BIOS will report or add it in the system Cmos. If there's a problem (Mostly hardware failure including PSU and CPU overheat Etc.) and signals No-Go, BIOS will not post. system will keep peeping and monitor will not get signal to turn-on from BIOS.

But monitor not being turn on even if tried with different system is really weird and could be that monitor is having a problem. Check and see monitor cable, and inside the cable please inspect the pins inside and see if any are bent or broken or missing.

Good Luck.
