More from Bioshock

They talk about not using scripted sequences, but then clearly half of the entire video is scripted.

Looks awesome. I'm loving the look of Rapture as a city itself so, so much. Can't wait to traversve between those bridges and see the rest of the city from up high or something.

Still hatin' that revolver, though.

Look great but yeah I agree about the revolver sucking.

This whole big daddy thing is being pushed to boredom now, I just hope they've got MUCH more than a few cute scripted characters up their sleeves...

As a one off character fine but having loads of cloned daddies and little sisters all with the same interaction animations will kill immersion DEAD within minutes!

There was a different Big Daddy model in that trailer. Was wearing a some kind of welding-mask.

Lol right off the bat that guy lied to us basically by saying it's not a Doom 3 clone. Also why did they make the Big Daddy so fast? This game seemed incredibly awesome when they showed that vid with the teddy bear. After that though it looks bad.

true I think the game has lost some of it's initial mysterious and dark atmosphere. It could hurt it but I doubt it will.

Meh still have yet to get excited about this game. Looks like just another shooter to be honest.

Who else thought it was adorable when the Big Daddy started patting the girl on the head? I dont think I could ever imagine killing one of those guys.

Ban this kid for stupidity.

Did you for a second realize all their media has been trying to push the idea that it is a shooter to the common person? Yet in interviews and the like they mention not only this but there are a lot of deep elements in the game.

How so? You think modding a gun is revolutionary? Btw the Big Dady never patted the girls head. They ****ed up the animations so it looks like the hand goes over her head. Also the enemies jump around like something from Circus De Soleil.

I dont think you can base a game on preview footage. Well yeah to an extent, but you cant say 'its definitely going to be like this' or 'just looks like game X or Y'.

I mean, we dont know if theyve intentionally missed out all the depth of the game and just shown us some of the 'cooler' aspects. But i can still see how people can look at almost any of the videos and see it as something like HL2 mixed with Doom 3 seasoned with Systemshock/Deus Ex.

I never said it was revolutionary.

But quote me on this, Bioshock WILL live up to expectations, and it will be Game of the Year.

Pretty much 90% of what we've seen is a few of the body enhancements and modding the weapons, and of course The Big Daddy. Theres like you know....alot more to the game there not showing us :|

Exactly, and couple that with people who absolutely have to be different and dislike something, you've got some annoying posts all over the interwebs.

Besides, even if its just a flatout clone of System Shock 2, it will still be better than an incredibly large majority of first person shooters.

I was really looking forward to it, but lately I haven't been quite that excited. I'm sure it will be good, just not omfg good as I expected.

What is so good about the game? What makes Bioshock stand out? Can anyone give me a concrete idea except "cool" or "good storyline"?

Besides, if you don't want to play the game, then don't.

yes please.

1) the similarities to doom pretty much stops after "being a first person shooter where you shoot bad guys" nothing "doom" about it.

2) the enemies in the game willl have access to a lot of the plasmid abilities the player has access to...I'm sure those super fast melee-variants of the big daddies are pumped up on the speed plasmid...which y'know...makes sense since they have to close in on you to be able to attack you in melee.

however I do think the "meh-replies" in this thread proves that Levine's Commercial realist-approach isn't really working:

levine said:
The point of BioShock, the raison d'etre, is really the story, and the messages and intellectual content that Levine tries to deliver as a payload. "Look at Lord of the Rings," he challenges. "Why is Lord of the Rings more interesting than random RPG story number 507? They're exactly the same thing. They have orcs and goblins and demons and trolls. But Lord of the Rings is a meditation on power. And it's really interesting because of that. It's what gives it it's heart." And with undenied hubris, Levine's trying to do the same thing with BioShock, while still delivering a game 16-year-old cheese eating high school students will want to play. "We have these philosophical notions, but you've got to deliver. You gotta bring home the monsters. You gotta bring home the superpowers." In short, he's become a commercial realist.

but rather the opposite as people that haven't followed the game carefully simply mistakes it for a common shooter and rather than generate interest it kills it. I've always disagreed with bioshocks PR. approach-from the generic ass cover, to levine's "not moving units"-quote as I thought it was a sellout approach...not only that... but it is definitly selling the game short.
