Kotaku are back again with more details on Portal 2, they got even more info from the rumored casting call reported yesterday. Prequel? Based on the dialogue below it's not. Beware SPOILERS BELOW:

The script samples we saw for the Cave Johnson role indicate that the Aperture CEO and "eccentric dead billionaire" is, well, already dead, living on in simulated computer form. He tells an unnamed rookie test subject via loudspeaker that "As of this mornin' yer old buddy Cave has been resurrected inside of a computer. And I never felt better!" acting as this entry's GlaDOS?possibly that prototypical GlaDOS, as theorized earlier?encouraging the player to continue the testing while waxing philosophical about the afterlife.[br]

"I been thinkin," the script reads, "Heck, suspended as I am in this inky purgatorium, I got nothin' to do but think. What if them engineers didn't do me no favors pourin' me into a computer? What if they denied me my final reward?"[br]

No telling if this internal conflict is the catalyst for Johnson "[losing] his grip on humanity as the story progresses" but if things go wonderfully wrong as they did in the first, it would certainly make for a compelling narrative.

I have to say WOW! Remember though this is still a rumor.

Sounds crazy, but again going to wait for some real Valve info before i go crazy.

Heck, suspended as I am in this inky purgatorium, I got nothin' to do but think.

Ironically, it sounds like the Engineer from TF2.

I told everyone that he was going to be similar to GLaDOS but was simply put into a computer to prolong his life.

Well, its still a rumour but meh, sounds good :D.

If Portal's in the Half-Life 2 world, and Half Life 2 has logical reasons for all of its content (thus being almost fully realistic), how the heck does this sort of thing fit in? Man... having self put into a computer...?

Currently hyped about the Pyro achievements and unlockables. There's not much point in hyping about a rumour when there's confirmation that we'll get something soon (or later, at least at some point in time) for Team Fortress 2. Besides, I should be more hyped about Episode Three!

And whether it's true Valve material or not, I can guarantee that it won't be like that for long. That would be a truly Valve thing to do.

You people have no depth.

Heehee, final reward.

Look, it's not like he's been converted into raw energy and turned into silicon. They just have an AI construct that is functionally identical to him. That sounds totally awesome.

Yeah that sounds pretty unreali- OH SHIT PORTAL STORMS!

Interesting...I hope it's a sequel though. I sort of hate it when games with open endings are followed by prequels, I want to see what happens to Chell.

Also, I'll take this news with a barrel of salt until Valve comes out with an official announcement.

Indeed it does sound super crappy. Sounds like it was written by a four year old or something , kind of like Cloverfield hehe.

"The difference between us is that I can feel pain. You don't even care, do
you? Did you hear me? I said you don't care. Are you listening?"

"This is your last chance."

"I feel sorry for you, really. Because you're not even in the right place."

"You should have turned left before. It's funny, actually, when you think about
it."

"Someday we'll remember this and laugh- and laugh- and laugh- Ohhh Boyyy. Well,
You may as well come on back."

"Didn't we have some fun, though? Remember when the platform was sliding into
the fire pit and i said 'Goodbye' and you were like 'NNOO WWAAYY", and then I
was all "We pretended we were going to murder you", that was great."
Out of context Portal transcript sound also super crappy. Think about it.

I have no doubt in Valve.

This isnt valve though , so unless i hear info that its real im not listening to all these rumours.

Cave Johnson wasn't promised his 100 virgins and now he is angry! Maybe he can surf the web and find porno or something. :p Anyways this is legit because if you watch http://www.gametrailers.com/gametrailerstv_player.php?ep=10&sd=0 at 9:45 Eric Wolfpaw says "there could be other A.I. or even more powerful A.I". *Wtf people, Portal had a plot because it's in the HL universe. They had the whole meeting room planning how to take over Black Mesa, their rivals, etc. *Also he obviously wasn't put physically in a computer. It's just a simulation of how he acts and looks like. Everything else is all pre-programmed on what to say if asked this, etc.

Random scribblings I wrote on a piece of paper from a brainwave last night. Figure it's best to leave them relatively unedited:

Cave alive in machine, Proto-GLaDOS implies GLaDOS may have been human. GL = Genetic Lifeform. Still Alive; not GLaDOS but original, doing science onboard Borealis. Not as insane. Chell struck from permanent record true. (Helloooooo)

Ugghhh, too many Valve things to hype up..

Pyro Achievements.
Episode Three.
Portal 2.
New Meet The Team Videos.
Portal Multiplayer.

SO MANYYY.

It actually makes sense; most Aperture Science tech resembles Combine tech; such as the turrets that are armed with pulse-rifle like guns, the high-energy pellet that resembles the same energy orbs found in combine reactors, and the fact that the Combine do have mind transfer technology as stated by Breen at the end of HL2. GLaDOS even says that she has Chell's mind backed up in the final boss fight in portal. So if my theory is correct and Aperture tech is based off of or reverse engineered Combine tech the Backup of Cave Johnson's mind is highly possible and it would explain why they gave so much information about him on the Aperture Science website and why his user account info can be found in chamber 17.

Not sure about ya'll, but I would find it funny if the new evil AI really was named Cave. Who read the Amber Spyglass? 'Cause in that book, there was a computer made to talk to the source of consciousness, and it was called "the Cave".

Funny. It was named after Plato's allegory not after person, but nice comment.

Worried that Portal 2 will be exactly like Portal 1 but with Cave instead of GLaDOS

I doubt it. This is valve, and this will be awesome. Besides, perhaps we will actually find out when portal takes place (assuming its a sequel).

This sounds hilarious.

"Well hoowhee I done never bin a com-pooter before!"

Do spoiler tags work in news posts? Just curious.

My faith in Valve has never been misplaced.

It is unshakable.

This will be awesome.
