Hey, I'm trying to help my grandfather upgrade his computer system. He has the misfortune of having a Dell computer with RDRAM. He currently has 2x128MB PC600 in it right now, but I was trying to figure out if his motherboard can take the PC800 type instead? He has a Dimension 8100 with whatever proprietary motherboad Dell puts in those, with the intel i850 chipset (revision A2). I guess another good question would be, is there that much difference between the PC600 and the PC800 that would justify the higher price? I noticed that neither newegg nor zipzoomfly carries the PC600 anymore, but I there are a bunch of seedy looking places I found using pricewatch that do.

Recommendations?

I am not familar with RIMMs enough to know if they allow them to clock down. The controller might allow for it to run at PC600 but I would not know how it reacts with different speeds of memory.

I would just be looking at the speed which is supported by the board.

Well that's what I was asking... will the board support the higher speed? I have no idea where to get those specs
