Ok well the title pretty much explains it all.Any chance you mods can be more strict on spam?

After what happend yesterday (yes I was involved with the spam on that damned thread) I think it proved how easily things can get carried away.I mean god damned...If the thread was closed earlier maybe none of this would be happing ya know?Hell the girls on these forums are getting harrassed because of that thread!Maybe you shouldn't let things slide by anymore or let your "human side" say "Oh I'm getting a laugh out of this...I'll keep it open a little longer".It seems like we all didn't learn are lesson after the crisis that happend last year between July and September (oldies will possibly remember that time: aka kinda like the same stuff thats happening now).

All I'm suggesting is that maybe the mods should be more strict from now on...Everthing has gotten out of hand cause everyone wanted a laugh or two...and look at where it's got us.

haha

I can just see your post now if it had been closed early

"why did you close that thread!? it was just some photo's!!!"

point is not closing threads early, the point is there was NO US based mods around to keep an eye on it after I'd gone to bed.

Point being, we need more moderators

I coulda put money on this, whatever the staff do, someone doesn't want it, we do what they want, they still complain.

There should have been moderators around at that time to keep things in check, it was a fun thread while I was watching it with only one warning, after I went to sleep it turned to shit, where were the mods then? Am I moderating this site alone 24/7? Icarus, who isn't even a proper mod was the ONLY one around to do anything about it when it went to hell.. where was sidewinder, where was spud, where was synth? THOSE are the questions you should be asking.. not whining about us being strict or not.

I'm not whining...I'm just suggesting.I just feel bad about this whole situation I guess.I'm glad you mods do your best!So no I'm not whining if you want to see whining look at the people complaining about that Ailvetion or whatever his name was getting banned.I'm glad Icarus was here when it all happend.

You are right about more mods...but I'm just a little peon so I don't think Munro will listen to me...maybe you could suggest it?

There should have been atleast three super mods around at that time of night, there should be regular mods on at that time of night.

I can't be expected to continue to stay on 24/7 now I'm getting better, I have to sleep now and i think my personal health is way more important than some iffy site on the anus of the interweb.

We need more moderators from the US and Australian time zones to cover for when the UK mods aren't and can't be around.

Or the alternative is I can just go and lock each section when i go to bed so nobody can post while the UK mods aren't around until the next morning. Hardly a good solution :(

Asides from that.. having now read what happened after I went to sleep.. Certain people deserve what they got, maybe they'll think twice before pestering other users and treating people like pieces of meat to oggle at. Shame you guys can't see that thread still, its one for the stickies IMO :D

Te lack of (active) US mods issue pops up every couple of months when there's trouble. I usually don't notice any problems associated with it because I live in europe, but last night's events have made it pretty obvious.

By the way, asking for strictness is never a good idea, the mods might just do it. Remember last time when there was a spam crackdown? Site discussion was filled with "mods are too strict" threads.

True true...but that situation was diffrent then the current one.Anyways Dark Elf has come up with a good solution...now lets see if Munro says yes to it.

eh, I was *kinda* around, but I need sleep as well (insert west coast us mod here)

Maybe I'm a bit OT - but I've started to visit the forums much less.
It's mental how many rubish posts appear in the HL2 forums. It's endless spammy threads with little to no usefull information with people posting for the sake of posting.
When I read the HL2 section, I want info on HL2 - not the OT crap that's beeing posted atm. Seems that most users can't find their way to the OT section.
It's literally a strain to wade through the pages to even find some form of informative thread. (Any interesting thread will obviously be cut with some retard feeling the need to write "teh r0xor !!11!")
[Just because a thread contains some vague reference to HL still does'nt make it HL material - which is what 95 % of the people that post in the HL2 forums think]

>> IMHO a good way to deal with this would be for mod's to move these essentially OT threads straight to the OT section, where the spam can continue for all I care - as I never read OT. No need to lock and hurt the poor spammers feelings. <<

I'd really like to see something done about this spam - as essentially HL2.net is far from a random site at the south end of the net. It's a quality HL2 site... as long as something is done about the spam in the forums.

Well, looks like crackdown time.

I´ve been on holiday lately, and I usually, along with Chris and TDE, cover most of the forums during GMT time.

u know when brought this up a couple of months ago, alot of members and staff included shunned my idea of having more US/Aussie staff members.. for whatever reason.. i still haven't figured it out...its a shame this place has to go through something like last night's incident for the staff here go back address the US/Aussie staff situation.

we'll see what Munro and StarMonkey decide to do now that all this has happened.. its just not something u can stand around and do nothing about.. unless pple want this site to go down the drain slowly :|

edit: and for the record, ever since post counts were taken away, i have noticed more of a spam increase.. i don't think its related to just last night.. coincidence? /me shrugs

I agree with the Dr.

The post count removal has given some people the idea that spam is no longer an issue on this site. They are now posting without thinking.

I'm from California! :)

PS: Sup Tr0n!

I will be blunt - it's the crowd. Bunch of people who "like the sound of their own voice."
Now I'm actually fine with that - you need the spammers I guess to keep your site popular. But have them post in a seperate OT section - by force if necessary. All that would take is a lot of work by the mods. Reading all the posts and sending them to OT.
Look at the general HL2 forum - it's all spam bassically. At least half the posts their should be in OT. If necessary make a HL2 offtopic section.
