more water problems

the water texture im using is only showing up 'underwater' and the no clip texture on the rest of the water volume is making the container see though.

ahhgg what am i doing wrong
 
yeh, i'm getting the same bullshit. water was created as per instructions. a level brush textured with nodraw all over, the surface then textured with cheap canal, (the maps huge, i'm using cheaps where possible), env cubmap above it near centre with the surface of water brush picked...

Why can you see through to the skybox when looking down from above it, but it looks fine showing all containing walls when you're heads under water?
 
funny thing is - mine is fine when i select fast vis...
other threads have suggested leak problems - i've got no *.lin file to load, so it aint a leak - wtf is it? any ideas people?
