"Say what you will about the "Matrix" saga, but don't call it predictable. Who would have expected Keanu Reeves' Neo to meet his end in the trilogy finale? Who would have expected so many fans of the first film to be critical of the sequels? And who would have expected one of the biggest characters in the movies to be murdered not on the big screen but in the new "Matrix" video game, two years after the movies supposedly put an end to the sci-fi saga?

But it happened. At 9 a.m. on Thursday (May 26), members of "The Matrix Online" massive multiplayer game witnessed Keanu's butt-kicking guru, Morpheus — he of the obscure riddles and gravity-violating kung-fu — meet his bitter end at the hands of a mysterious assassin."

too little too late? saw Matrix online at eb games the other day for $34 ...still didnt think it was worth it ...maybe when it gets below $10

To answer your first question: No, I don't care. At all actually.

I am a matrix fan, but I don't care, they brothers should start by making a mini-series.

just like star wars TV-show due in 2006-07

I'd rather have a video of a arty of Alliance players killing Thrall.

So then I can hate the Alliance even more!

I have come to the conclusion the Wachowski's didn't write the first Matrix movie.

End of.

It's a sad rumour that I now too believe. I'm guessing they found some sort of short story somewhere, then adapted it enough to create a good film. There is no doubt they are talented film makers, but they have the screenwriting prowess of a dead goldfish.

There was a thread about that a while ago... some woman wrote a script for a movie called Third Eye and sent it to them, it was like the same thing. She got it back but then they produced the movie several years later and she sued them.

as for the Matrix Online, I wouldn't get it. I played the beta and disliked it. Maybe it's better now but I doubt it.

LMFAO!

From the moment I saw Neo fly away at the end of the first Matrix I knew, if there ever would be a sequel, it would be shit.

Then when it was announced that it would be a trilogy and that the final two would be filmed simultaneously my thoughts were confirmed.

i liked all three Matrix movies and pretty much think that people will never stop comparing sequels and will never just enjoy sequels for what they are.
anyway i have not bought the Matrix Online game... i am not a fan of MMORPG's mainly because i would be paying another fee on top of all the bills i pay every month.. not my cup of tea.

they left the ending of the third one wide enough so that another movie could be made.
personally, i think its only a matter of time before they make another Matrix movie and well.. i don't mind that :)

Supposedly she settled for some ridiculous amount of money and it's all been hushed up. In the mean time, the wachowski brothers are no longer brothers! WTF! o_O

First let me say that the original matrix was a brilliant film, right up my street.

In my opinion, a movie should only extend into a trilogy because there is simply so much story that it can't be told in a coherent way in a one and a half to two hour period.

However, watching the prolonged dance and fight scenes it is painfully obvious that there was never enough story for it. What we ended up getting was two movies largely comprised of filler material. For that reason alone I throughly despise the so called trilogy.

I liked all three movies as well. The first one just had a much different feeling. I like to think the first was more hardcore cyberpunk, whereas the other two had a lot more influences.

Also the first one was purple and the second two were green :)

lol Fictious, if that's true I wouldn't be suprised.

First matrix - loved... alot. Fantastic.

Second movie - That was crap.....

Third movie - I didnt even go to see... still havn't seen it. Heard it made the second movie look good..... :|

And the game.... I dont care about because of the 5 lines above..

I think a lot of people saw the first Matrix as being something it wasn't. I'm a bigtime nerd, but I never got what it was exactly that made people hate the two sequels so much.
As for the "lawsuit" issue, I give that women as much credibility as OJ Simpson. She simultaneously sued both the people who made Terminator 3 and the Matrix for stealing her story. How the hell can her story be stolen for both movies when they're so massively different?

Machines that become sentient and then procede to enslave and kill off humans. Not an original idea but if that's what her story was about then I can see why she'd want to sue those two film titles.

I just loved the first movie. I saw the second and third one but they just didn't went to the level as the first one. I even have them on DVD here.

I mean: not the special effect, were that encredible as in the first one.

The animatrix, from the other side, was great, no doubt about that.

The first one was my favorite movie of all time, so I was so excited about seeing the second that my love of the Matrix universe blinded me to the sad truth that Reloaded was decidedly mediocre.

But The Matrix Revolutions was forged in the fires of Mount Doom to torment mankind. It made the second look like a masterpiece of modern cinema.

I think the fact that the majority of people who posted in this thread barely mentioned Matrix Online speaks for itself

Yeah, but thats hardly a new idea. I'm sure that you could find instances of such a plot going back almost a century.

Stern: While the Matrix Online isn't all that popular at the moment, I support the idea of them continuing the story. I see the Matrix as a universe, like Star Wars or LOTR. The first movie introduced everyone to it, the second and third movie went in a new direction and focused on Neo's story, the Animatrix explored new territory as did the comics, and now the game is forging its own tale.

I agree but the sales of the game speaks for itself ...I mean I dont know of a single person who has the retail version

What I think happened was that, by adding so many new, and often pointless, characters into the sequels and the games, Wachowskis were trying to to turn the Matrix into a big starwars-like franchise, and failed.

Matrix 1 worked because it focused on Keanu Reeves and a handful of memorable characters.
But then they added Naiobe, Ghost, Captain Frowny-Face, Merovingian, Persephone, the keymaker, the architecht, Kid, those two gals with the rocket launcher, rocket-gal's husband, teahouse guy, the council of elders or whatever, vampires, ghosts, the train man, human Smith, a thousand Zionites, and more.

Now, how many of those were actually interesting characters? I'd say the keymaker was cool. But the rest were wasted. And all the while, characters we gave a damn about were shoved aside to make way for the franchise.
Morpheus spent the last movie like a simpering wuss. Neo was only in it for like 15 minutes.
Can anyone remember what the train man even did in the movie?

Try puting some ****ing spoiler tags in and not have the thread title as "Morpheus is dead".

Jerk..

edit: Just to clarify, I play matrix online, now and then, and I did know about this, but for the sake of people still playing and yet to do that part, put in spoiler tags, would you want this if it was a matrix film? No..

? huh? who pissed in your wheetabix this morning? look up any games news site and it's there .....jerk

Fine whatever. Spoiler Neo dies >_>

I'd say the real spoiler is Matrix:Reloaded and :Revolution. But I think I'm just flogging a dead horse at this point so I won't.

:)

meh I read that in the article actually, as I havent seen the last movie ...not that I care

Something that has always stymied me with the Matrix movies is how many self respecting nerds have never even watched Reloaded and Revolutions, or just Revolutions. I mean, these are the people who have watched the Star Wars prequels (ROTS not included) multiple times.
If you can see some entertainment in those, how can you not at least enjoy the dock scene in Revolutions? Giant mechs slugging it out with thousands of robots? Whats not to like?

The thing is...I enjoyed all 3 movies..but The Matrix cannot be topped. Revolutions and Reloaded didn't even feel like the same matrix. They were fun action movies, but they were no matrix.

I agree. The first one was obviously the best, with much more broad appeal. But that never means that the others are totally with merit or appeal. To come back to Star Wars again, I don't think the prequels have anything on the originals, but I can tell why people can appreciate them.

I cared....ohh wait Morpheus died? I thought we were talking about Fenix from Sc & Bw....ohh well... his deaths....shall be avenged!! Kill the Queen of Blades!!

as i said in my previous post in this thread...comparasion of sequels to originals leads to disappointment 95% of the time.
people just need to enjoy movies for what they are.

i mean if they kept with the same feel of the first Matrix, then that first one wouldn't be as special as everyone agrees it was.

as for The Matrix Online, i don't know the percentages of gamers playing MMORPG's vs other game types but when u have something as successful as World of Warcraft combined with people mostly not liking the two sequels, its no surprise this game isn't doing well.

But the 3rd had big cool robots. Everyone likes big cool robots! :D

What's with everyone using danimals avatar? Did i miss something

oh..and i don't give a shit that he died
