I guess I can finally grab his gun from his dead cold hands

US actor Charlton Heston, whose chiselled features and commanding presence won him epic roles from Moses to Michelangelo, has died aged 84.

The Oscar-winning Heston, who was also president of the influential National Rifle Association lobbying group, died on Saturday night (local time) at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, the family said in a statement.

he's remembered for this movie

As we say in Australia "Even ****er's turn into top blokes after death".

Well he made some good films. Bit of a prick though.

I don't know a ton about the guy, but if people are basing his prick-ism off of Bowling for Columbine, then that's ridiculous.

No, just off him generally being a prick.

Alright, well I'll take your word, don't know much about him.

Michael Moore was being a bit of a prick when he was interviewing him, IMO.

Finally we can pry that rifle "FROM HIS COLD, BARE HANDS!"

Can't say I know too much about the chap, but I loved him in Apes.

I saw "Taylor is dead" and came running.

Hardcore old bastard...He was in some damn good movies..."Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!" RIP.

he was a great actor, i bet most of you kids have only ever seen him in BFC and base your opinions of the man on that apperance. i bet most famous people you hold in high regard are complete pricks away from the media.

I've seen him in Planet of the Apes, Ben Hur, Tombstone, The Three (and Four) Musketeers, El Cid, and of course, Wayne's World 2.

Also, I probably know better which famous people are or are not pricks away from the camera than you. Nyah nyah nyah nyah, nyah.

self serving agenda?

* is one of the most well known anti-racists in hollywood, well known in the 1960s as greatly supporting the civil rights movement
* supported the gun control act of 1968
* opposed the vietnam war
* was passionate about freedom of speech
* was pro-life

sounds like a white upperclass self server to me.

was president of the NRA for a whopping 5 years and this makes him a monster? how many gun deaths in the usa were caused by members of the NRA in the last 5 years? i dont have any facts or figures but im taking a wild guess at 'nearly 0%'

and nobody

NOBODY

disses the shat.

pro-life is a plus to you?

and funny how you omitted quoting this part from his wiki page:

By the 1980s, Heston opposed affirmative action, supported gun rights and changed his political affiliation from Democratic to Republican.[15] He campaigned for Republicans and Republican Presidents Ronald Reagan,[16] George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush.[17]

Heston resigned from Actors Equity, claiming the union's refusal to allow a white actor to play a Eurasian role in "Miss Saigon" was "obscenely racist."[18] He said CNN's telecasts from Baghdad were "sowing doubts" about the allied effort in the 1990-91 Gulf War.[18]

At a Time Warner stockholders meeting, he castigated the company for releasing an Ice-T album which included the song "Cop Killer", which depicted the killing of police officers.[19]

According to his autobiography In the Arena, Heston recognized the right of freedom of speech exercised by others. In a 1997 speech, he rhetorically deplored a culture war he said was being conducted by a generation of media, educators, entertainers, and politicians against:

"...the God fearing, law-abiding, Caucasian, middle- class Protestant-or even worse, evangelical Christian, Midwestern or Southern- or even worse, rural, apparently straight-or even worse, admitted heterosexuals, gun-owning-or even worse, NRA-card-carrying, average working stiff-or even worse, male working stiff-because, not only don’t you count, you are a down-right obstacle to social progress. Your voice deserves a lower decibel level, your opinion is less enlightened, your media access is insignificant, and frankly, mister, you need to wake up, wise up, and learn a little something from your new-America and until you do, would you mind shutting up?"

even when he's being a hypocrite?

so much for freedom of speech

Ben Gibbard (not in context said:
Just 'cause he's gone, it doesn't change that fact:
he was bastard in life, thus a bastard in death

Mmhmm.

Meh. Kinda bad actor, head of the NRA, dead. Not all that sad to see him gone. Yeah he was in Apes but let's be frank, his performance was hardly what made that movie good.

You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!

/beats sand with fist

Oh, he's that guy. I retract my previous statement regard his sexual preference.

I'll miss this guy. Really, I will.

Sad to see people can hate a man for his interpretation of gun laws. Ohwell!
so much for freedom of speech

He thought the album was promoting hatred and violence -- so he voiced his constitutionally enforced right to an opinion.

I hope he picks off a few of the leftists on this forum from heaven with his high powered rifle, of love.
