Today is release day for Mount and Blade Warband (although if you've preordered you've been able to play the full game for weeks now) ..basically it's a remake of Mount and Blade with updated graphics new features and multiplayer

http://store.steampowered.com/app/48700/

and if you get it within the next 4 hours it's $5 cheaper. it's worth it imho. probably the best sword/mounted combat in any game to date

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVCkz2e9Bz4

This should be free for people who already own the damn game. :frown:

why? it's a complete remake with added features and multiplayer. all for $25

But, I already spent $30 on the first game.
The only differences that I see between the two are tidied up graphics and multiplayer.

Whatever, going to wait for reviews and maybe a weekend deal.

it was $5 a few months ago. some of the features:

Overhauled graphics; HDR, FSAA, Depth of Field, Soft particles, Tone Mapping and many other effects are all now implemented.
- Majority of Models are being redone.
- Multiplayer battles can now handle up to 64 players with Mods including Team Death Match and Search & Destroy.
- Ability to become the ruler of a faction and convince lords to become your vassals in the Single Player Campaign.
- Ability to upgrade your companions to vassalage by granting them land.
- Improved Mechanics for Soldier Morale: Soldiers will break and run away if their morale gets too low.
- Formations
- Completely new faction (Possibly Asian Influenced according to Screenshots)
- Customizable quick battles
- New weapons, armour, etc. to add with the new faction.
- Diplomacy options
- Improved stragetic AI
- More options in sieges
- Improved horse archery
- It'll be more difficult to keep soldiers from an enemy faction. For example, if you are a Vaegir and you keep raiding Swadian villages, swadian troops in your party will be more likely to desert and your party morale will be reduced.

So, they fix the first game and re-sell it? Huh....

My thoughts as well. Seems like this is more a significant patch than a full remake. Especially since the graphics look pretty much the same, the campaign is pretty much the same, the UI is pretty much the same and pretty much all those "new" features are just tweaks to existing features.

it's an expansion. they added features to the single player and added multiplayer. really what more did you expect from an expansion? it's $25

not at all. the campaign has a new faction and a larger world map and the graphics are nowhere near the same as the first game. have you played the game? you can download the multiplayer beta if you have a serial key from the first game

Multiplayer is pretty much the only significant addition to the formula. Not worth 25 bucks though, especially if its just skirmishing, and not like a full blown multiplayer RPG.

like a full blown muliplayer RPG?

what game has full blown multiplayer is an rpg and isnt an MMO?

.....are you serious? wtf those are point and click games. not even remotely similiar

Whats that got to do with anything? They're still RPGs where you keep your character through your online games, level them up, and progress through the story. Those things are all possible with Mount & Blade. Combat/navigation gameplay style has nothing to do with it.

what do you mean what does that have to do with anything? should we criticise Fallout 3 because it doesnt have an MMO like multiplayer game even though Diable 2 does?

i bought the original mount and blade for $5 so I'll probably do the same for the expansion/new game or whatever the hell it is

No, I'm saying we should criticize Fallout 3 Warband, because all it does is add patch content, and multiplayer where you just shoot each other without any of Fallout 3's rpg elements.

ya I hated Fallout 3 DLC because all it did was add 2 hours of gameplay without completely remaking the game in to a mmo

"mmmmm these bitterly Bitters tastes bitter"

Its amazing how good you are at hearing people say something completely different than what they actually said.

you were saying that we should criticise fallout 3: Warband 2 Electric Boogaloo because all it adds is a patch fix and multiplayer and I countered with we should criticise fallout 3: Warband 2 Electric Boogaloo (f3 dlc) if it offers up anything less than full mp (mmo not just run of the mill mp but the bestest mp content this side of calradia)

Please restate the nature of your emergency

for the record if they added mp to fallout 3 (they'd have to add something as compelling as Seige gameplay found in Warband because that's a big part of M&B, say attack the mutant stronghold made up of bots and players) and redid the game in a modern engine with updated features a new faction, weapons armor and stuff to do I'd pay $25 for it

You're being ridiculous stern with this false dichotomy, stop aggravating the dog.

But this isn't DLC. Its being marketed, and more importantly, priced as a full remake. For 10 dollars, the DLC's 2hrs of completely new content may be worth it. Not to me, but to some. But 30 dollars for a patch with some lame, extremely limited multiplayer is not at all enticing when I've got the original game still. Especially when you consider that Mods for the first game pretty much address all the SP tweaks they did for Warband. It amounts to basically 30 dollars for a multiplayer horseback combat game. That isn't even close to worth 30 bucks in my eyes unless there was a complete reinvention of the formula for online games. Which as far as I can tell, there isn't. Its just the "random encounter" SP combat system but with real people.

And as for the graphics, these look pretty god damn similar to me.

come on they're an independent developer making a labor of love not EA jumping on the money train. give them a break. I know I overpaid because in a few months this will be 75% off in a steam sale but I dont care. I dont mind supporting the little guy so they can make future $29 expansion packs/patches.

I accept your admission of defeat in this debate.

I've always supported Taleworlds. I bought their game twice in fact, back when they were still developing it, and I showed it to several people, at least three of whom I know then purchased it as well. I'm all for supporting good indie devs, but I don't see how this was worth their time or effort frankly. A Mount & Blade 2 is still on my wishlist, so long as that add more substance to the game beyond superfluities.

Also, I'll probably buy this once it hits that 75% off steam sale.

lol ok, if that makes you happy ..cant wait to play the NEW and improved Mount and Blade when I get home that I paid only $25 smackeroos for

your kind of support tends to leave the person with a knife sticking out of his back ;)

and you're not going to get M&B 2 unless you pay for M&BWB. oh sure you'll be there to jump on the M&B2 bandwagon but god forbid they struggle financially up until that point because people like YOU think they undeliver on promises

THIS IS WHY WE CANT HAVE NICE THINGS

JUDAS!!!

Are you suggesting I pay for crap so I can get to pay for something later? Also, how many developers are there? As far as I'm aware, theres one guy and his wife. They must be pretty awful with money if they're struggling after all the sales they've made off the first one.

EDIT: Looks like they have six employees now. Big whoop

I did enjoy the first one but I agree this expansion isn't really expanding anything. Will definately pick it up for cheap anyways.

how many kittens have you falcon punched today? jebus man I'm not suggesting anything, that part was in jest

STOP ASSUMING I HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR GOD DAMNIT!

And 16 cats in total. Not sure how many were kittens. I don't discriminate.

Insta-purchased.

Loved Mount and Blade. I pirated it a long time ago (Didn't know there was a demo) thinking "This is going to suck hard, but I'm bored." I played for 30 minutes before deleting it and purchasing the game straight from Tale Worlds.

Probably dumped at least 50 hours into the game (before mods).

SUCKER!!!

some couple in turkey is currently high-fiving each other ..also yelling allah akbar!!!

it doesnt matter you can play the full game regardless. I'm sure the unlock is just a final patch THAT WE DONT HAVE TO PAY FOR

But I'm sure there is a reasonable amount of change from 0.860 to 1.011.

sure but you wont get to a lot of content by the time this unlocks. currently I'm lvl 6 after playing for 3 days

I havent run into any bugs after playing it for 3 days. I was playing the original M&B right before and the transition was seemless

I'd buy it (well, think about it) if it was actually like a medieval-style Tribes game... not this, though.
