Mount and Blade + XCOM = Kenshi

Kenshi, a single player “free-roaming squad based RPG” that plonks the player into the sandals of an everyman samurai. It’s at a very early stage but Lo-Fi Games are hoping to release a playable version next month so that people can have immediate access while helping with development.

Was excited when I read this but very disappointed when I saw the video (no, not even because of the graphics). It's in some weird almost sci-fantasy universe if that video is anything to go by, because we see modern-esque buildings and gigantic unrealistic swords :/ I was really hoping for a fictitious but realistic ancient Samurai setting. If they are going for this sci-fantasy they need to push that further visually IMO.

I quite agree. The setting is dull, the combat looks uninspired and the art direction rather generic.

In short, lame. I'll go play some M&B or one of its excellent mods instead. Or X-Com. Hell, Terror From the Deep looks more fun than that.

Based on the last scene, it looks more like XCOM meets Mount and Blade meets Dynasty Warriors.
