I know that this game has been posted about before & so i'm sorry to have started another thread about it, but since I am new to it & am having a rather sinfully good time playing it, I feel the need to talk about this game to anyone here that will listen. I am not exacly sure what it is about this game that I enjoy so much, but I just can't seem to stop playing it. Before I know it, several hours have passed & i'm still ingame trying to get one more "Crouched Lance" kill or setting up my highly trained archers into a solid line, waiting for the enemy to get within range before I give the order to open fire one last time.

Being as I have an HD 4850 & thus having the graphics glitch that many other ATI users are having, I am only able to play the game in DX7 until a fix is released via ATI in a new driver or the dev team takes care of the problem themself in Ver. 1.0 (Which I have read they plan to do) & so I need not mention the graphics or rather lack there of. However, the game for some reason has a firm grip on my gaming hours & refuses to let go. What is it about this game that is so fun? It's obviously not the graphics, the audio is ok at best & there is no real story to speak of. So, for the love of god, will someone here please tell me what makes this game so friggen addictive?

There is a very nice selection of mods available as well.

It is a damn awesome game.
The commands you can give to AI are a bit iffy though as they're not the brightest and I'm usually the only one left standing which is a bit meh.

I'm waiting for the final release versino(after playing a shitload out of .960, and waiting for some of the great mods to be made for the final release version. Like The Last Days mod which is a LOTR mod.

I'm also waiting for the final version. I have played quite a bit of .960 already and it's getting a bit old. Hopefully 1.0 will be a big enough upgrade to get me interested again.

Oh I'll definitely always be interested again. I've come back to this game so much over the many years I've owned a key. And it's always a blast. I have a lot of fun just riding around killing people on my horse.

Yeah it's a great game, I bought the Mount & Blade the first day it went shareware, thus I got it at the cheapest price :D

I ran into a band of thieves after recruiting just one soldier for my party. I ran around them in a circle on my horse, firing crossbow bolts into their ranks and taking out two of them. Then I ran out of bolts, so I took down another two thieves with my sword and horse, before getting knocked off by a guy with a club. :(

My party consists of 68 Vaegir knights, 5 companions, and 14 Vaegir horsemen, and 10 Vaegir Guards. I have garrisons in the hundreds consisting of archers, crossbowmen, infantrymen and knights at every major estate under my control. This is my story.

In my early years I faced several hardships. Friendless, and poor I struggled to find a means to stay alive. It seemed that every time I got ahead, bandits would over run my small party, slaughtering my men, robbing me, and holding me captive until they they realized I would draw no ransom. But I persisted. Through diligence and skill at arms, I soon mastered the tourney, garnering wealth and fame at cities across the country. Despite several major setbacks, it wasnt long until I could afford a party large enough to properly defend myself. Taking up service with the Vaegir lords, I quickly improved my relations amongst the noblemen and learned the intricacies of knighthood, and the history of the kingdom of Vaegirs. To my horror, I learned of a betrayal of and the disrespect of lineage that lead to the current King Yaroglek sitting upon the throne. It wasnt until I was sent on a errand to deliver a message to the Khergate Khante that I found the betrayed prince. It was then that I vowed my allegiance to this man, taking up arms in his service. After gathering many Vaegir noblemen to our cause, bringing down the walls of Vaegir cities and building them anew under our banner, I eventually overthrew the Usurper King Yaroglek, establishing the true heir, Prince Valdym the Bastard as the new King of the Vaegirs. In the process, I had become rich, claiming the estates of Khudan, Wercheg, Dramurg Castle, and several minor fiefdoms as my own. With the rightful king in his place, I was made marshal of the kingdom, and lead several attacks on the Nordic front throughout the years, claiming lands in the name of King Valdym as far out as the city of Thir, leaving the Nords backed into a corner, surrounded, and on the verge of destruction.

Then I got bored. Now I am waiting for the next version release :D

Damn you Krynn!

You needed to use the Spoiler tags. I didn't know any of that was possible, as I am new to the game. Just for that, i'm gonna join the Nords & pretend you are the green team & I shall set forth & will be happy with nothing except for world domination & therefore shall crush you under my boot like the bug you are! :p

Hurries back ingame....

Oh snap, just found a Firefly mod for the game!
Can't find any working screenshots though, I'll give it a whirl anyways.

Eh, doesn't change enough to be a keeper.
The travel map is cool though, fly around a mini firefly. :D

The 0.5.2 version of the Star Wars Calradia mod is rather fun.

Definitely checking that out.
edit : Cool mod, blasters are a bitch to use though.
One thing that peeves me besides that about the game is how retarded the friendly AI is... they're useless! I tell them to charge and they just sit there or move when they feel like it and end up dying.

Is there any possible way to keep my men alive longer?! :|

I'm playing with the vaegir as well and i wanted to know where did you found the prince?

This game is ace. Bought it today because Reginald had been giving me the hard sell on it on the Steam chat and I must say, hokey graphics aside it's bloody good fun. Can't say I know exactly what I'm doing yet, but simple as the combat is it's deeply satisfying, esp when you and your homeboys manage to completely crush a larger force, and turning on your horse and shooting some guy chasing you in the face with an arrow never gets dull. Awesome. :O

Heh I think I'll be going with the Vaegir as well, they kick ass esp the ass of the Sea Raiders, or future prisoners as I like to call them. ;)

lol gud 1

Vaegirs are nice, but I found Swadian knights to be cooler than their Vaegir counterparts.

Bah, niether Swadian nor Vaegir knights can stand against a shield wall of Nordic Huscarls!

Oh and Mercenary Cavalry. Gotta have Mercenary Cavalry no matter who you are. :p

I restarted as there were quite a few things I hadn't sussed out early on such as the companions etc. Presently have about 5 companions and about 14 Vaegirs, mainly mounted and kicking ass relentlessly. Pretty epic all round it has to be said. What they need now is for EA or someone to come along and give them a truck load of cash to develop a deeper, better looking sequel. It's a game that deserves a wider audience.

Thats exactly what it doesn't need. M&B turned out so well because of the tiny budget it was developed on and the system the developers came up with to ensure funding.

I'm just waiting... forever waiting... for The Last Days mod to come out for one of the commercial versions.

I guess, but I'd be happy to see Valve pick it up. At least, I would be if I could be sure it wouldn't delay Ep3 more :p

I'm digging it as a game and an experience, but I'm also digging it for what future iterations could be, and better graphics and full character audio would be part of the additions I'd love to see as well as a deeper and richer RPG element, and such things require real financial investment and you need big publishers to achieve this.
