this is a conversation i had with a friend about aiming in CS/CSS and he goes into talking about windows mouse excelleration and how it affects aiming in CS/CSS

<trickst3r> have you heard of mousefix.reg
<trickst3r> ever?
<trickst3r> i heard about it for the 1st time a few weeks ago, and what it does
<trickst3r> i have never ever used it
<sithz> lol
<sithz> i've used that since i started playing cs
<trickst3r> does it make a big difference?
<sithz> eh, not really
<sithz> just helps with mouse accel really
<trickst3r> so because im use to playing with mouse accel on for song
<trickst3r> its better to just to stay?
<trickst3r> for so long*
<sithz> technically, mouse accel is worse, cause you can never move the mouse the exact same speed everytime, so your shot is always gonna be different
<sithz> really close... but still different
<trickst3r> that explains alot of shit with my aim
<trickst3r> nobody ever told me about, i never found etc...
<sithz> wheras mouse accel off, it's just a ratio between the distance you move your mouse on the pad versus how far you want to move it on the screen... which you adjust by using the "sensitivity" command in console
<trickst3r> i never heard of anyone speak about it either
<sithz> yeah it's been out since the beta's
<trickst3r> i have no idea why i never heard about it

now i hadn't heard of this up until a few weeks ago and its probably no big deal but i am curious, has anyone else ever heard and used the registration file that rids CS/CSS of windows mouse excelleration?

i've always seen the 'CS 1.6 WITH mouse fix' @ lan cafes but i've always just used 'normal' -- my aiming is fine though and i don't use the reg fix when i play in wars and that (i vs the top clans in my state on lan and occasionaly some from other states, so i'm playing with damn good ppl).

has your aim become better / easier ? i might try it out . .

i haven't used it.
as i said, i only found out about it a few weeks ago and was well...kinda wondering if its some sorta hack until my friend explained it to me.

i am still hesitant to use it.

I like mouse acceleration. Lets me aim slowly when I need accuracy, and move my aim quickly when I need to.

That's very true. Useful, but only if you've been using it since the start of your gaming. No point changing it at all if you've never used it.

I've been using accel reg fix for well over a year now, im poor without it i'd say. It's crazy :)

Hmm not quite true for me. Before I started css (the first day the beta came out) I played alot Quake3. Ofcourse I played q3 without maccel, because fast and accurate twitches are what q3 is all about. When I started css I played without it. For more than half a year. But one time I put it on, just to feel the difference. And well, I could aim for the head VERY easily. So I tested both ways to see what I liked better, and it turned out I was way more effecient with maccel. Headies are what you need in matches. So I used it since. I improved alot and I like maccel for css now. The maccel itself does have to be limited. 3 step based (slow | medium | fast) is best IMO. That makes the slow movement the same speed as long as you don't cross the limit to medium speed (so it's just without maccel actually). The same is for very fast. The steps need to be balanced very well in speed difference and the cross-over points gotta be comfortable.

I found all these requirements in the MX510. I love the mouse and I don't want any other mouse for css. I did buy the MX518 though, thinking there would be no difference except the precision. Big mistake, the MX518 uses completely different software (mx510 uses Mouseware 9.80 and mx518 uses setpoint 2.31). The maccel is really screwed up with setpoint, the speed difference between the steps are way too exagerated and the crossover points are not comfortable. That's why I traded my mx518 with the mx510 of my dad (now he has my second mx510, cause he plays css too now). And I'm not gonna buy one of the newest logitech series. This one is serving me perfectly. The only thing I have a hard time with is holding my crosshair on people who are moving completely sideways on midrange distance (think of standing on the stairs at a-short in dust2, and trying to hit someone moving from a-corner to a-site). Oh and somehow, twitching with scoped weapons is very comfortable (I hit every damn time :naughty:).
