I am trying to find a decent mov editor or .mov to avi ive looked into adobe premiere but I want some real good advice on how to go about editing movies from digital cameras

adobe premier ive found i actually very good, not the best, not 100% professional but still a very good program. as for .mov, adobe premiere should use that... if not you might just have to find a converter.

Digital Cameras don't have the best movie clip quality, not sure why you would be looking at Premiere.
You could buy Quicktime Pro for $30 to edit the files.
Or you could convert them to avi and then edit. Maybe use SUPER to convert to AVI. There are other free AVI editors out there.

If you just want to cut parts of the video out then try something like Video splitter

What are you going to be doing with the digital camera movies? Know what format you want them to be in the end. Everytime you convert video it loses quality.

I am going to be working on video blogs, quick documentaries, and just general clips. Nothing super serious I just want to have the freedom of creativty or the creativty of freedom, I dont want the technology to restrict me because my knowledge of the technology will already be resitrcting enough and if I think of a good idea I want to be able to successfully carry it out without having to worry about will my software be able to do this?
I want to be able to cut parts, add little effects here and there and have somewhat of a professional flare. My video camera is pretty good I think it records at 640x something so I think If I down the resolution it may look crisper.

Lowering the resolution will make it look more blocking, less sharp. hehe
Check out the quicktime pro features. Personally, i'd buy a DV camcorder that comes with editing software before I'd buy Premiere. They might be about the same price. hehe
But maybe the digital camera is quick and easy for ya.

Heheh who said I was purchasing, I usually just "try it" out for an extended time ecause I am not looking to make a profit off of my projects. I would be totally up for buying a DV camera its just I have no money so I have make do. Thanks for your help Asus, as always it is greatly appreciated.

i want this SUPER video converter but i cant find a download link.. is there not supposed to be one?

Are you trying to make videos using a digital photo camera that can record short video clips?

Yes but my camera can record for 24 - 30 minutes and if i down the quality it can go even longer.

What the fu*k. That's like using a go-kart to drive to work every day. Sure, it works, but it is not a practical or serious solution. Even for just mucking 'round at home. Those camera's are shit for doing anything like that. They are there purely for "gimick" value. I am in the audio/visual industry, I deal with creating movies, TV ads, music videos, promotional stuff, etc. If anyone came to me with stuff they had made using their stills camera I would laugh my ass off at them. As would everyone else. There is SO much wrong with using that as anything more than a laugh when you are on holiday, that I can't be arsed listing it all here.

I'm not trying to be mean, I'm giving you some reality. Even if you are just doing it for "your own entertainment" - don't. Seriously. I hope this came out right, because I'm still laughing hard, so it's hard to concentrate properly or read the screen.

I see what you mean, well maybe I will come around some fresh cash and be able to buy a decent dv? Or you could tell me some really cheaps ones but decent?

why dont you buy him a good camera if its such a big deal, sure there not the best quality but its just to have fun, I've made a 3 min long skate video on a still shot camera that had a "record" feature, it worked just fine for me ( belive me it was far from pro, which he and I are not of ) and i think with a very small buget ( espesily if he already has one ) it would be perfect for internet video bloging becuase no one wants to go though large file sized video blogs. dude if thats all you need it good for you, have fun doing what you love to do, it video editing a bloging that is :D

nofx - There are some real cheap Canon dv video cameras around at the moment, obviously they are not the best or anything, but they are certainly worth more than they cost. Some cameras work like ass when there is anything less that direct light streaming from the sun, all DVD camcorders are shit - they compress way too much, leaving horrible mpg artifacts, the sony ones are terrible quality inside, even with all your house lights on etc, and a lot of other camcorders pick up the sound of their own dv tape winding, so you always have a horrible eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee sound in the background. The cheap canon ones seem to perform almost as well as expensive ones, and don't do too bad in poor light etc. Panasonic seem to be the best though -if you can find a cheap or second-hand one. All however, will be of far more value than a stills camera record function. If you ever plan on regularly filming stuff, or showing anyone any of your clips, seriously consider getting a real video camera. You can find something cheap if you look hard enough. They are getting so cheap these days, that I'm almost surprised that you don't get one with every happy meal yet.

i used to have a cheep open box cannon, served me well till the lcd screen started getting a little fuzzy then my dad tried to fix it and just broke the whole thing... it was a very nice camera wich i could probably replace the whole thing for about a $200 bux now...maybe even cheaper...

Virtual Dub is a free proggy where you can amaturely edit videos...it's great for compressing too!

I know you can cut the begining and end of videos in Virtual Dub, but can you mark sections to cut out or really edit the video?

It is a really good free program though.

You can't edit videos with VirtualDub, you can cut frames, add video filters and a different compression and (re)compile it to an AVI format videofile. Not much more. It's a great program for what it does though. Excellent way to make content ready for editing.
