i have had halflife since it came out, and about a week ago, things began to get very choppy. walking, running...both in DM and in SP, it behaves as though i am lagging. which is strange, because i never have higher ping than 70. the game played beautifully for me for months, up until about a week ago. i havent made any upgrades/changes to the computer other than the steam updates, so i am at a loss as to what is going on. any help would be much appreciated. thankyah much.

system stats:
windows xp sp2
2.0 gHz p4
1.0 gig 2100 DDRAM
ati radeon 9550 256mb 4x agp

-tk

i hate having to do this...

bump.

please...anyone with any ideas at all...cause this is driving me nuts

one: does your mobo support 8x agp? give it a shot if it does

two: what game video settings/resolution are you running?

three: have you scanned for spyware/defraged your hd lately?

1. no it does not...its a 3 year old dell with only 4x, and no overclocking capabilities.

2. i am running the "recommended" settings for my computer: 1280x960
high detail model
high detail texture
simple reflections in water
trilinear filtering
shader detail: high
shadow detial: high
antialiasing: none
wait for vertical sync: disabled

3. as for spyware, i scan the computer nightly with spybot, McAfee, and i run SpywareBlaster occasionally.

defragging the hard drive was the first thing i tried....no joy.

thanks again

Is it stuttering or just low fps? Many people noticed stuttering after the last update. I say lower your settings, disable specular, bumpmap and ragdoll physics in autoconfig and hope that the next update will fix what was broken in the previous.

Anyway the settings look too high for your rig. I don't think you could get more than 30-40 fps on 20 man server even before the update.

i think i have figured it out...although this may not make much sense. i think the problem was simply my computer was overheated.

after shutting down the computer for the night and letting it cool down, the game runs perfectly. if i leave the compy on for 2 days though...at that point the game starts to get choppy. guess i oughtta get a better fan.

thanks guys
