A brilliant site which all, who think hollywood movies even have remotely real physics, have something to learn from.

The least realistic physics in a game is in my opinon the original ragdoll settings for Max payne 2. If you install a mod called Raggy Raggers however, they become the most realistic ragdolls ever!

When it comes to movies, any 80s movie is a perfect example. Rambo for instance, when John falls down a long in a tree and then on the ground but still survives, when in real life most people break a bone if falling in vertically a lying position even in as low distances as 1 or 2 metres.

It also explains how dangerous jumping through a window is, which can be important for people to know as me for instance has always thought jumping through windows could be a good escape route if there's an emergency situation in a house.

What are some of the worst physics you've seen in a movie or a game?

halflife 2's physics absolutely suck. have you seen them?

;P

anyway, I 'd say crouching tiger hidden dragon has to take the cake for me, maybe hero :p

For people who're perhaps just a tad too anally retentive?

And Sheepy - less of that. Not a bad word against Crouching Tiger... okay?

I just saw the Imax(big ass movie theatre) version of Spiderman 2.

I have to say the physics were completly unrealistic......like an 80 year old woman flying through the air.....and being able to hang from an umbrella..... :dozey:

thats why they are called movies. this "vs" thing between movies and real life is pointless to me for the fact movies always have unrealistic things happen but thats how they are.
If it was real life physics and how gaming physics can almost replicate it to the dot, then thats something to compare.
Not trying to bash this thread at all. Just had to let that out.

Cool site, not intended to be taken too serious methinks. Unless you've seen Commando.

Ouch, that wouldn't be pretty, you know, just an arm hanging from an unbrella 200 feet above the ground.

But yeah, of course movie physics aren't realistic, but action movies wouldn't quite be action movies without them.

Yeah, it's just some fun facts, that's all.

I for one wouldn't like good ol' action movies to have hyperrealistic physics and such, this is a case of fun before realism.

I love the site; some very, very interesting information there. The Independence Day review was pretty damn funny when it came down to talking about how Jeff Goldblum and his magical machines save the day. The site isn't serious, it's just very interesting to read what would actually happen in some of these circumstances rather than what Hollywood depicts.

Oh yes, and my physics teacher in High School actually told me I should go out and watch The Core because it did a good job of portraying certain concepts in physics (I knew she was nuts right then and there). Isn't the American system for public education wonderful!

:( I just find it funny that all this time, the rest of the world didn't know that chinese people could fly...

Well maybe you didn't...

You gotta read the Armageddon review, some amazing facts in there.

Especially this:
We couldn't help thinking that a Texas-sized asteroid deserved a Texas-sized hole. This set our imaginations running about how to dig one. The answer hit us like a meteorite: bowling! Why not blast a hole in the asteroid with bowling balls? Each bowling ball's blast could come from its kinetic energy. With the asteroid headed toward Earth at 22,000 mph a space shuttle could head away from Earth at 22,000 mph straight toward the asteroid. This would give a closing speed of 44,000 mph or 19,678 m/s. A bowling ball rolled out the front of the shuttle would eventually strike the asteroid with so much kinetic energy that the ball would explode!

Most realistic physics in a movie/cartoon

Roadrunner and Willie E Coyote(sp)

Maybe that fellow forgot what the word "fiction" means

The Core was utterly laughable. It was like Swordfish; as long as enough buzzwords are thrown around, people will assume it's all grounded in reality.

Haha, Swordfish.... worst programming scene ever! He's manipulating some sort of cube-thingy to make a hacking program, all the while having an orgasm or meth-induced spaz. Hilarious.

Though the exploding vest scene was pretty cool.

For worst physics, I nominate Star Wars... I mean, I'm a fan, but it just bugs me.

Ever seen Hackers?
