ok so, now that i have HL and CS for steam or whatever, can i delete my old c:/sierra/halflife folder? im not gonna bother converting the mods over or whatever, ill just download them through steam.

someone help me, im so confused.

I guess. I couldn't get steam to convert over my HL stuff anyway. It just froze halfway through the process. :(

So I've kind of pretended that never happened and I'm soldiering onwards with the CS/HL only install of Steam..

I'd wait until you've successfully installed the mods first at the least unless you haven't got the space. Even if it works you'd be better off keeping it for another week or so.

on steampowered.com it says something interesting...

"How do I install and use mods in Steam?

If you have a Half-Life mod installed before installing Steam, Steam will automatically convert and install the game for you. It will then be accessible in the Steam "My Games" list under "Third Party Games."

If you want to add a mod after installing Steam, you need only to put it in the Steam/SteamApps/your_email_address/Half-Life directory. The next time you open the "My Games" list it will be listed under "Third Party Games.""

thats found here

i dont have a half-life folder there, so i just created one and stuck all my shit in there. i hope it works

I think you have to actually run Half-Life before Steam will extract the files from the cache and create a Half-Life folder. Then move your mods across.
