I have been looking for a good MP3 player. The only one that I know is good, because most of my friend have them and I am sure a lot of the people on here have them, are the Apple iPods.

I am looking for at least a gig of memory but the thing is I do not want to spend a lot of money because I more than likely will stop using it later on in time. The iPod Shuffle is very small. I think too small for me. I would lose it.

Can someone recommend me some good MP3 players? Thanks a lot.

I do not personally own one, however, I have a couple friends that have the Creative Zen (unfortunately, not Xen, as some of us Half-Lifers would like  ) But it received top ratings in PC Magazine for a Hard Drive-based MP3 player. It seems to be pretty sturdy and well built, and is relatively cheap (but then, what isn't compared to the iPod). Supposedly it has some of the best battery life as well... which is a real plus.

Hope this helps.

Creative also just released the Zen Micro not to long ago, looks like a nice little player to me. And they are having a sale on them right now.

I personally have the Muvo^2 (thats muvo squared but whatever) and I haven't had any problems with it, other than the buttons being a little small but you get used to that pretty quickly.

Battery life is good enough for me, and it is a pretty sturdy little player. Pretty good for jogging with and what not.

Creative has quite a few players that look pretty good.

also check reviews for the iRiver mp3 players. I have an older model which im satisfied with. I intend to buy one of their jukeboxes shortly.

One of the IRiver models supports the SRS WOW Effect, I don't know if anyone here has heard it but I love it it's amazing, I'm just mad there's no way to put a filter on my mp3's or something so I can have it on my CD player (I just burn MP3 discs I don't have an MP3 player).

I'm in love with my iRiver H-120; who needs an iPod when this does more, and better? It is an old model that's been discontinued though, but you can still find them pretty easily.

Creative MuVo Slim 512 MB MP3 or Creative Labs MuVo Micro N200 1.0GB MP3 Player seems to have high reviews and arnt too expensive $229.99 canadian for the 1GB model.

I would like to also use it as a portable HDD. I did find the Creative NOMAD Zen Xtra for $200. Holds 30gb, has a very nifty feature on it called EAX, although it is quite large. For $200, I also could get the Creative Micro 5gb. I mean 5gb can hold a decent supply of music, and the battery life is amazing. They say it can hold a charge for 24 hours. Thats pretty good in my book. The NOMAD can only hold a charge for 10-14 hours depending on the charge life. Then there is the Creative Zen Touch, which for a pretty penny, that does not have the EAX feature, pretty big (I think bigger than the regular iPod), 20gb, very easy to navigate.

I do not want to be spending more than $250 for this. Can someone direct me in the right direction? ;)

I would recommend the 30GB Xtra with EAX if you have the money, the 5GB Micro if you don't.

They both are equal in price. The Micro can't hold as much and doesn't have EAX, but the battery life on this thing is very amazing. The NOMAD Xtra is very large and has a battery life of 10-14 hours, but it does have EAX plus the massive storage. Would 5gb be plenty for storage and songs? I think at the moment I have 1gb in songs. I will be taking some cds from my friends very soon. ;) Would 4gb be good for portable hdd? I mean I would like to move my games around and bring them to my friends houses' if need arises.

My apologies, I hadn't checked on the price...

5gb is enough to hold approximately 80 hours of music - depending on your bitrate - so probably about 70 CDs worth of music.

If you want to use it as a portable hard drive, figure that you can store about 6 games in 4GB - depending on the size of the game, of course.

In other words, the 5GB will be OK, but not great if you're seriously looking at using it alot as a portable hard drive. If you're going to use it mainly for music - good deal, go for it.

Cheers

Yep, what Shamrock and Netguru said. I got a 40GB Nomad Zen Xtra for christmas and it works great. At the time, the 40GB one was on sale, so it didn't cost much more than the 30GB one. Now it's probably gone back up, but 30GB is still plenty. The battery life isn't perfect, but it's still good (at least you can replace the battery yourself, unlike iPods, hA!). If you really needed more battery life, you could just buy an extra rechargeable battery and keep it charged up for emergencies. Creative is definitely the best, they have the same capacities as iPod, but at about half the price.
