Ok, so the time came when my CD player finally went to hell. So I'm going to get an mp3 player which could hold around 1gb (yeah it's small, but if I had more I would hardly listen to half the songs). I'm in the decision between this and an Ipod Nano. From what I can see, the price is the only difference (around 60 bucks Australian).

So, what should I get?

I distinctly remember a thread about just this somewhere on these forums. Creative's Zen (micro or nano) are pretty slick.

Buy the cheaper one. Both of the players are of similar function. Those litte differece will not affect you. The most important thing is the player can play songs, so buy the cheaper one.

Mine is a small barrel, 512MB and hair grows out from under the screen. :(

MP3 MP3 imy frens got thata one, its good but a bit bulky

Not true.

Dreadlord is right, don't buy cheapass MP3 Players. I learnt this the hard way.

My MP3 player greets me with "WELCOMEUSE!" and flashes random colours, the AAA batteries I have to use in it only last for half an hour a pop, and the MP3 Player restarts at the slightest bump. Big brand MP3 Players cost more because of quality.

I know, it's sad. It can't spell user. It also has some an uneccassary playlist option called Introduce. It plays every song for 10 seconds and moves on to the next, they should of replaced it with a shuffle playlist option. :frown:

I have two of these MP3 Players, my first one coudn't be used anymore because the play button fell inside the ****ing barrel. The play button on the second one is funking up too.

Sounds awesome .

I really do love my Zen Touch. It's a tad on the heavy side compared to a lot of players, but it works great, and holds plenty of songs. It also works wonders with Napster, which is my main source for music.

At school, I get lots of people telling me how superior their iPod Nanos are, but I have a way of shutting them up.

I take their player, set it on the table infront of me, and raise my Zen as if I'm going to slam it on the table. The look on their face as they panic and reach for their flimsy player is always priceless.

Ok, so it's down to either the Ipod Nano, or the Zen Nano Plus (just in case that Sandisk thing is absolute bullshit and breaks within seconds).

Once again, your thoughts :)

I've heard pretty much nothing but good about both of them. I think a lot of it comes down to price, and what programs you use. If you're a fan of itunes, go with the ipod. If you're more into Napster, or "other" means of obtaining music and such, Creative might be a better choice. I hear the Ipod Nano is quite fragile.

That's the problem, I think I could get a case for it (works for my mate's Nano).

Also, batteries is another issue...I don't want to keep forking out money for AAA batteries everytime they run out or having to recharge them ( takes about 8 hours D: ). I think that is an advantage of the Ipod Nano, because it has the rechargeable and it "apparently" takes 3 hours to charge.

I've heard great things about both, but I've loved my iPod (not Nano, though). Name-branded rip-offs though they may be, they are some slick machines - the click wheel is great, and the design oozes style. iTunes is nice too.

Another thing - a lot of gimmicky portable speakers and such are readily compatible with the iPod. I own a speaker dock, for example - you just plug the iPod itself directly into the base, and it doubles as a charger. Gimmick or not, very nice - and it's great for dorm rooms.

EDIT: And yeah, don't underestimate the convenience of a rechargeable battery. Be warned though, I've heard Apple charges an obscene amount to replace an old battery. Haven't had to deal with it myself, though.

Ah, didn't realize the Creative was on AAA batteries? My Zen takes about 2 hours to recharge, and plays for at least 10+ hours.

He must mean the 512 MuVo, which is a notch lower than the Nano, which is more a competitor to the Zen Micro.

btw...My Zen Touch gets 25+ hours on a single charge :D

Yeah, I only use mine during the day, it's always charging at night, never tried it for longer than that.

Well, I listen to mine at school for several hours a day...and I only need to charge around once a week.

My girlfriend and I use it as our stereo kinda, we plug it into our speakers sometimes at night, and forget to turn it off. So that's about the only time mine sees more than 10 hours use before recharging. :p

Well, I might go with the Nano...pretty much because of the battery and the "trusted" brand name. It looks swish, too.

The Nano is indeed sexeh.

Cause you know, when you purchase, you always gotta be plannin in case some dumbass nutcase decides to slam their mp3 players into yours.

Be sure to get a GOOD case protector... maybe just a rubber casing so if you accidentally drop it, it absorbs the impact.

Seriously, I was dumb enough to get a leather-sleeve type case, and it totally ****ed up my iPod's screen by smudging the hell out of it. :(
The only thing I liked about the sleeve was that clip on it.

But yeah, my nano hasn't let me down since I got it for Christmas.
Holds just the right amount of music, 2gb. n_n

Edit : Only problem I've had really, it's probably just me... I've been going through new headphones every few months.
Cause I just like to hang them around my neck and turn the volume all the way up. :|
It's getting really annoying, anyone know of some good quality headphones that can withstand high volume?

Apple products only come with a one year warrentee, my zen micro cme with like 4 years. The software will drive you crzy however. Craaaazzzzy I telll you. HATEHATEHATE

Creative Zen Vision:M for all your entertainment needs save for sexual pleasure. No, wait -- yeah, it gives that too.

Bullshit.

There are no moving parts. It's a set of flash chips in an aluminum box.

I've dropped mine on laminate and concrete flooring from about 5 and a half feet up. Works fine. It was underneath my lamp for a week and it still works fine. Drenched it in water trying to get this skin thingy on, and there are no issues whatsoever.

I even read a review where they ran it over with a car, and while the screen turned to a purple haze (pun noted), the player worked just fine.

Lol, just stating what I've heard / read on these boards.

Wow, 40 gigs? Can you upload non-mp3 files into it so you can use it as a backup device (like regular cds)? How much did it cost?

It was a gift from my girlfriend at Christmas time. I think it was around $250. Yes you can upload whatever you want to it, there's no way to play anything but the standard few types of music files though.

Ok, I got a Nano...and holy shit is it shiny :D

Sure, itunes is a bitch (stupid copyright! I BOUGHT THE CD) and some things didn't seem obvious at first (deleting songs off the ipod :)) but over all I'm quite happy with it.
