Half-Life was not great or best game of all times because it had ultra realstic models

I don't know if I'd call the characters in Doom3 "non-fugly." Matterfact, aren't they created for the express purpose of being gross?

When you look at a Doom 3 character, you know straight away it's next generation.

Look at the Breen render and you could mistake it for a HL1 mod character or something.

But (to play devil's advocate) when you look at a Doom 3 character, it's always in the context of a screenshot inside a level, chock full of lighting and shadowing, the entire purpose of which is to show off the character geometry and normal mapping. The pictures of Breen posted by Ashton are from the leaked HLMV tool, lit in fullbright and surrounded by empty space. It's not necessarily a valid comparison IMHO.

That's very true. He will most certainly look better in game with the proper lighting and such.

But i still stand by my opinion that Doom 3 characters have more overall detail and...i guess you could say...believability.

honestly Hl2 has the least impressive graphics among the next gen titles.
(imho)
however it has the BEST style, nothing comes close to the way they present their game.
I love the grittiness of HL2, the design of the characters, the urban backdrop and the weaponry.
thats why (at least to me) HL2 will rock everything else, regardless of the weakness in the graphics department (its nice, but not as powerful as other next gen titles), simply because it is HL2.

now give it to us already damnit.... this has been cruel and unusual punishment!

Well hl2 graphics are great, but they were never meant to be the best of the best, half-life's werent the most top notch either, but the facial animations are definatly the best, and Mr. Redundant has the right idea, its the feel of it, not the solid line graphics.
