Just stumbled across this from GoW2 forum...

I figure that most people don't know this, so that link'll give people an idea of how long it roughly takes; likely 5-7 days. I'd reckon 2 weeks tops. So when Valve releases a statement something along the lines of "We're awaiting MS certification before releasing the patch," we'll have a brief understanding of how long it's gonna take.

yes, but the the majority of the time you would think you would be waiting for your turn to be certified which could take a month.

Wouldn't it also depend on the size of the patch? Not to mention whether MS demands a revised version before release.

It took weeks for MS to certify the patch for GTA4 PC. And that was a small patch as well.

It's been said like a billion times before, the XBOX has no influence on the PC version. It didn't stop the Orange Box because of the PS3 did it? It's just Valve plain and simple.

It does for Left4Dead seeing as both platforms are getting DLC at the same time. So we have to wait for MS to certify the 360 version before Valve will release the PC version. Kinda goes against what Steam was supposed to represent in that we get the updates as soon as they are done with no middle men.

Valve uses that time to work out the bugs and playtest it, just like the Heavy unlock and the Sandman.

They may have had to make some compromises in their agreement to let 360 L4D get updates for free.
