"MS 'unsurprised' by a 2007 launch for PS3"

Wow, 2k7 eh? Good thing I decided to go PC only after my ps2 died. But thats a damn long time to lag behind XB360. Hell, maybe Nintendo Revolution can beat it in sales now.

PS3 had better have a very nice trick up it's sleeve. I think the reason it's 2k7 was because of the whole Bluray thing that Sony are banging on about. Apparently there's another disc being researched which can hold a lot more space, but it'll take longer or something.

But either way, Krynn72, the revolution will be the console that grannie's buy for their grandchildren for christmas. It's very cheap and is a family console.

thank god i live in the good ol US of A, I'll be getting it second, which rocks

I wouldn't trust anything a corporate representative says about the competitions product .... or even their own.

Yeah, you'd have to be crazy if you believe anything any of the reps from any of these companies say right now and probably for the next year or two as well. This "article" is ridiculously devoid of any concrete information whatsoever, and as such means almost nothing to me.

I could certainly see Sony doing a worldwide launch sometime next year, but even if they do Japan first, they should still beat the 360 numbers because of the outrageous demand for the next Sony console in Japan. Still, we will all just have to wait and see...including Mr. Neil Thompson.

I don't think Sony's too worried about outselling the 360, sales of the PS2 are ridiculously higher than the Xboxes in North America and Europe, and the demand for Playstations in Japan is unbelievable.

so someone that work in microsoft is saying that the ps3 will be launch in the 2007?

tha hav zero sense

The X-Box came out over a year after the PS2 as well and it did just fine.

No, Sony said that they might hold off till 2007 if sales of Ps2 holds throughout 2006 which they predict will.

It did relatively bad in sales, I don't think Microsoft has even sold enough to make a profit yet, and it sold about 1/5 as much as the PS2 (as of the end of 2003, the PS2 sold about 70 million and the Xbox (and Gamecube) sold just over 13 million, more recent numbers wouldn't make that much of a difference though)

There is a much larger fan base for the Playstation than the X360. Even though the PS3 is coming out later than the X360, I think it will crush the XBOX 360 and microsoft's part in the console manufacturing.

I don't think Sony or Microsoft made to much profit off the actual console,(Only Nintendo really did) if any. Most of the money comes from licensing fee's. Every time a game is shipped\sold to\in a store Microsoft or Sony will earn profit off of it no matter who made it or who published it, just that it's for there console.

I'm overall undecided. Why? Microsoft has really really pushed Japanese Developers for the Xbox 360. Plus right now to get a game going for the Ps3 you need to lay down 17.1 million upfront for Sony. Not ever developer has that. That will really hurt new developers with innovative ideas.
*New Developers want to make game*
*Publisher looks at costs*
*Just costs upfront are more than total costs on older consoles*
*Add in paying a 100 man team, possibility of game sucking ass*
*Publisher has big choice*

Obviously there is probably some upfront cost for the Xbox360, but Microsoft is really willing to loose money to gain more support for there console in Japan. Really it only makes the Pc look better for more Innovative idea's because you can cancel out the publisher.

i can see into a biased future too ;)

I'm gonna make a console called the Awesomebox and it will crush Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. They'll crawl up to me and beg for my secret and I'll be all like "Pfft. Nah, bish" and walk off all cool-like.

...****. Don't listen to me.

Im gonna make a console called the Pwnzer2000, and it will crush yours, Nintendo's, Sony's, and Microsoft's. When you all crawl up to me I'll be like, "My secret is I have 2,000,000 asian workers underground being payed $0.25 an hour plus a breeding team thus adding 5000+ every week. I pay them when I have the money so it all works out. They love working down there, I have quite a few on bikes powering up the place, some working the machines, etc.. all works out for the best :).

My console is basically all your consoles in a smaller box(Yes I had them develop a shrink ray). MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAAHH. Combine that with my Patent you can't steal my idea's!"
MUAHAHAHAHAHHA MHAHHAHAHAHAH
*Fart*

Yes I am going insane.

i'm going to blow up the world, who is with me!?

errr... wrong thread maybe...

Yes, but my console will be developed solely by me. You run the risk of having the asians overthrow you in a coup. :|

I'd still like to know what that 17.1 million is made up from, because I can't believe its just to Sony and the article didn't say it was. Also, I've only seen one article that talks about a price that high.

If you believe Microsoft's hype, then developers would need teams just as big and equipment that is just as expensive to make games for X360.

.. but that's the thing, it's cheaper (licenses, hardware, ?) to dev for x360.

i'm getting both, and my x360 will most likely have preference (<3 live + games).

The only game last generation that was really -daring- and -innovative- imo was Steel Battalion, I mean it took alot of guts from Capcom to release a game costing over 200 bucks for a console, they didn't have to deal with the publisher issue tho, as they publish their own games, still very daring.
Not to mention it's the best game for the X-Box out there, too bad not alot of people got a chance to try it.

If they get out of order I shock them! It works out perfect. Plus as I said, they like working there.

or
http://www.ps3focus.com/archives/127
and if you can read japenese
http://www.zakzak.co.jp/top/2005_09/t2005092602.html

compare those values to this:
http://theinquirer.net/?article=25441
"28 companies voluntarily disclosed their figures to the association, revealing that the average cost of producing an Xbox game is 202 million yen ($1.82 million) as opposed to 96 million yen ($877,000) to develop a game for the PS2, making the Xbox on average just short of $1 million more expensive to develop for."

Now if it costs upfront $17.6million vs totaled $877,000 well...you get the point. Publishers have to fund new developers. Publishers have a lot less chance to go for innovation. In the end Xbox360 games will cost an extremely high amount to, so the same goes for it.

All about the same article. Thats what I said, I've only seen that said in one place.

There, you just agreed with my main point; X360 is going to be just as expensive to develop for.

Yes I never ment to argue against your main point. They will both cost over the top. I was really trying to point out one fact:
Innovation for the next generation of consoles will decline, as publishers will take less chances with newer, unique, challenging, ideas because of money. With the pc's going big in digital distribution, it will only make the pc look like a great way to get into the business and the pc will start off as the major innovative platform.

I think Epic may have gone the other way and went with the Ps3. I'm not entirley sure though, they did state that the tools wern't as bad as the Ps2's.

I am seriously beginning to doubt the PS3 will be much of a success. It may be a little too far ahead of its time.

Time will tell, to be sure, but I think you would have to be certifiable to doubt the success of a system whose predecessor has sold over 90 million units worldwide. The installed fanbase of Sony customers is a pretty loyal one and when you consider how Sony has apparently learned from its mistakes with the development platform for the PS2, the smart money says that Sony will have as many if not more developers on their bandwagon when all is said and done.

And I don't know who died and made John Carmack God. Or Gabe Newell for that matter. Its going to take plenty of doing to learn the new architecture, but as we can see by the developer support already demonstrated for both systems, no one is cowering in the corner with fear. There are literally hundreds of developers diving in head-first to learn how to get the most out of each system. Let the games themselves do the talking instead of articles quoting developers out of context and taking one thing they say and running with it screaming down the road like its a new Gospel.

i say the except same thing as you, just replace ps3 with x360.

You know..I'm starting to agree with you now. The PS3 is very hard to develop games on...so I'm gonna have to agree for now.

:)

lol, i was just making fun of people who say that x console is going to win ;)
