MSN closing down chat rooms

Did anyone see the news? MSN are apparently closing down all there chat rooms in an effort to protect children from perverted little ****s, excuse my language.
Now this is a good idea i may here you cry, but in fact, its not. If this catches on, it could mean the end of chat rooms as we no it...and then, maybe even forums! Now that directly affects us, because, believe it or not, this is a forum!
Also, children will now go to other chat rooms, one's less reptuable then Microsofts ones are. Also, its said that other major chat room providers will follow suit, and close theres down aswell.

Please discuss I want to hear your views on the matter

I know that, but if other major companys decide to close down there chat rooms, then in effect VBullitin could also do it....or even worse, be made to do it, if a law comes in stating that any internet based posting system that could potentally leave kids vulnerable to perverts must be banned...then forums will go...but id hope that doesnt happen.

Plus that does sound alittle far-fetched, but you never know

Nah its not the end of chatrooms, and certainly not forums. As soon as they close down there will be new sites to come and replace MSN and the other chat room providers. I mean people will want to chat somewhere, so all it will take is another site to come along and fill the void.

I doubt that any law would ban that. Porn sites are perfectly legal so long as the people visiting the site agree to the terms stating they are over the legal age to view it. That would be all that any new law would do for forums and chat rooms.

Well as i said it does sound alittle far fetched, but its a possibility that chat rooms could be completley shut down, i know that there are people who are campainging to close down such things as chat rooms and message boards.

MSN closes down their own chat rooms. Everybody can write their own chat room, post it on the internet. Same with massage boards.

I know, that means that the perverts will be able to make there own chat rooms espcially to draw kinds into.....

But the fact is, is that if Microsoft, a leading company is willing to close down there entire chat room services, whats to stop other companys doing it? and not just chat rooms

Nothing stops them, they just don't give a fly about this issue. Most of the chat rooms and message boards are for free, you can download them, install them on your server and here we go, you got yourself chat room. I still don't understand your concerns at all, only if you liked to hang out at MSN chat rooms. Or maybe you don't really understand how Internet works

I'm just saying, this could have a worse affect then what was planned, and i mean....its kinda worrying isnt it? that they just close down stuff, i mean whats next?!! I'm not mad!! they are after me!!!

I was just wondering if anyone could be really cynical about this or sumthin
