Laivasse said:Zipping up a 1Mb file is a waste of time better spent swearing at midgets. Shouldn't have to do it. I don't like to feel as if I'm being made to jump through hoops by a program I'm using for convenience. 'PLEASE SIR CAN I SEND THIS FILE SIR I SWEAR IT'S NOT DANGEROUS NO OKAY THEN SORRY MR SIR.' Infuriating.
What is the POINT of zipping a 1Mb file? Especially if it's a small .exe install file which is basically a zip file anyway and wont compress any further. There'll be no difference to the transfer time (which is also almost always abysmal through MSN). Exactly how much safer are you when the same family member you don't trust can get the same ohnoesdeadlyvirus.exe sent to them in a zip? No safer? That's right.Ren.182 said:You are a very lazy person if you can't zip a 1mb file...
They block things like .exe's so less experienced users aren't at risk from viruses and such... Yes! There are less experienced users on the internet then maybe you and I. And I'd rather know my computer is safe when a family member uses MSN.
The point is to bypass the MSN filter. If you don't want to zip, just change it or use another ftp service.Laivasse said:What is the POINT of zipping a 1Mb file? Don't tell me I'm lazy. I just don't want to be treated like an idiot - which is exactly what is happening when MSN waits for a bloody transfer to complete (in the case of mp3's) before refusing to open it and vanishing the file because it is 'dangerous'. Sorry if I badmouthed your precious IM prog. I might be forced to use MSN since all my friends can't be bothered to use anything else, but I'll be ****ed if I pay it lip service.
That's what I do - I use File Transfer Plus (a much recommended plugin for MSNPlus) like I said earlier. Doesn't stop MSN from being an intentionally crippled pile of wank._Z_Ryuken said:The point is to bypass the MSN filter. If you don't want to zip, just change it or use another ftp service.
And, for the truly paranoid: Since Microsoft are automatically monitoring your conversations, and block certain messages — what prevents them from eavesdropping on your messages, and sending any “suspicious” content off to third parties, such as governments and their agencies?
