Quick, blame it on terrorism before it's too late.

Seriously though, If it erupts, hopefully people can evacuate.

not many people live around st. helens. i wasent here for the 80 eruption, so it would be a helluva experience for me, i suppose, seeing that huge smoke plume in the sky. its a hundred or so miles from seattle, so i guess ill have a front row seat. by the way, theres a 53% of it erupting within the next few days.

If it does erupt it won't be like the 80 eruption. In fact, they consider it likely that any eruption would be mostly contained to the dome itself.

i hope so, poor mountain is ugly enough with no top :(. i guess theres now a 70% chance of it erupting. magnitude 2-2.8 earthquakes every couple minutes. imagine standing there now with it shaking all the time like that.

edit: live images http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/volcanocams/msh/ :) yay

oops. my advice is to not go camping on mount st.helens atm. wait a few days, then go :)

That camera doesn't work :(

I wanna seee some exploding.

The camera works..... Its just shitty quality.

The sun is just now coming up over there.

Well since the last huge erruption by Mt st helens, I think that they have made sure that people are safe. Last time, they applyed some safety proceedures which was meant to keep everyone safe however it wasn't precise enough, I have a feeling that they have corrected this.

Just a small eruption apparently. Nothing to be worried about yet.

Geologist Tom Pierson said the event "was really a hiccup. [Eruptions] could be a little bigger once real magma is involved."

A visible plume -- which was mostly steam but contained some ash -- moved southwest about six miles, Major said.
they are going to see if magma was involved via airplane.

oh noes!! Isn't VALVe's offices in Seattle!?

When it erupted, I went outside and took some pictures, even tho i dont have that great of a view, and then these to people drove up and wanted to come into my house to watch the news.. I didnt even know them! Not to be mean or anything. We told them no, and they seemed very dissapointed! Just a little funny story about my day.. heh... now back to watching the news.. and learning the same facts over, and over, and over and over and over until my head explodes :bounce:

I don't think it erupted yet...unless maybe they are classifying it as a small eruption.

There technically can't be another 1980 eruption for quite some time, since that one blew off half of the mountain. There just isn't the pressure to keep it in.

What people in the NW have to watch out for is Mt. Rainier. If that blows, it could be another Helens type eruption fairly close to a densely populated area.

Hurricaines, Volcanos, I think God is trying to send you a message! If there's a plauge of locusts in the next few days I'd advise you lot to get the hell out of there!

That would be eerily cool. (from an outsider's perspective)

My little brother's locusts to feed his lizard escaped recently. Does that help?

im kinda excited..i wish it was like the 1980 eruption cuz i live in bellevue..and that would mean..no school yay..maybe

And mass destruction? yay :O

nothing like a good bit of mass destruction to get you out of school, good thinking Fat Tony!

What about the hudge one under Yellow stone park, that's the biggest underground volcano In the continent/ world.

Heard someting about it being stupidly big, and it could blow like 1/12 of the US landmass into the air.

Tis a natural weapon of mass destruction :O

Wasn't that speculated to actually be a chain reaction of volcanoes? Something I heard...

Anyway, Mount Taupo over here, now that was huge. So huge it's now lake Taupo.

Norway is so boring.
- no volcanoes
- no earthquakes ,well 4 glasses started shaking once, probably a record.
- no tornadoes, except the ones in the backyard making a few leafs spin in circles.
- barely any thunderstorms

We got potatoes. Don't know if that's considered scary.

oh god yeah i would love to have a volcane capable of burning me and my family while we sleep, sitting outside my window....and i can never get enough earthquakes....

Another St. Helens eruption appears imminent

MOUNT ST. HELENS, Wash. - Almost 24 hours after Mount St. Helens spewed a plume of steam and ash, it again let off some steam, but no ash. The event only lasted about 5 seconds and was followed by a landslide.

However, another eruption could be imminent, involving fresh magma, and an Alert Level 3 was declared. A "3" is the highest level and means that an eruption is imminent.

Officials decided to evacuate thousands of tourists from the Johnston Ridge Observatory area due to the increased activity. They were within a 5-mile radius.

The reason why gas was not being seen could be due to the wet ground from a melting glacier, said geologist Tom Pierson. Normally, a seal should have been broken by so much shaking and earthquake, he said.

...

"until enough debris is cleared, and then there is a significant chance that lava could be extruded at the surface."

good times we live in.

Just to think, I went there about a month and a half ago, but seriously, if you think about it, it is one of the more active volcanoes (If you go to the visitor centre overlooking it they have a diagram of some of the more famous volcanoes, and the average time between major eruptions. Surprised to see Mt St Helens average is 20-30 years, or something)

I cant remember the name of the mountain im about to talk about, but ill go try to find it out. Anyway, I heard on the news that there was another one that has been growing a "bulge" out of the side of it for a few years now, just like MT. Saint helens back when it blew up. The bulge has been growing an inch a year, and its starting to get noticable.

hahaha washingtoners people persons are gonna get socked!! ahahahahahahahaahah
