As if Snoop Dogg needed more cash or exposure, MTV has signed on to help promote the Hip-Hop Gaming League. MTV will be promoting the league, created by Snoop Dogg, through on-air and online shows and web updates.

“Who else could do it this big other than MTV, Snoop Dogg and Xbox Live,” said Snoop Dogg. “How bout dat, ya dig?” “We’re thrilled to partner with the Hip-Hop Gaming League as it brings a whole new level of visibility to the world of organized video game competitions,” stated Salli Frattini, senior vice president, executive in charge of production. “Working with the HHGL allows us to present some of our audience’s passions across MTV’s multiple platforms by bringing together some of the biggest names in hip-hop to test their competitive skills on some of their favorite video games.”

half-articulate quasi-musicians playing games that publishers pay big bucks to be on the show ...sounds like lots of fun


I can almost see the brainstorming at MTV corporate headquarters when they came up with this one:

expensive suit 1: "hmmm we need something hip, something the kids can identify with"

expensive suit 2: "well kids like rap music and they like video games ..what if we had rap stars playing video games and call it Mama-jammin with Da boyz in da hood playaz! brought to you by Pepsi of course"

To bad he's going to be playing massively marketed under-par crap that no one else will pay. If the game's not good enough to sell on its own merits get it on the HHGL!. Honestly, I doubt we'll be seeing them playing any luminaries of the competitive game scene.
