Feel free to ignore this post it's just me rambling and speculating.

Firstly a few "facts".

Staff at ritual entertainment, who are making counter strike condition zero, have stated that they have finished it and that whatever happens to the game now is out of their hands.

Steam has precached two cs:cz player models inside the cs 1.6 beta file structure.

Valve worked on cs:cz for a short while before gearbox did (it then went to ritual, long story)

Gabe stated that if cs:cz was delayed again rather than move hl2 back to aid sales they would scrap cz and move it to the source engine and release it at a later date.

There is 8 weeks left to the (hopeful) release of hl2 and valve have yet to announce what is in the multiplayer.

I feel like a member of the ghost writer team now but all I'm trying to say is can anyone find any link in between all this lot?

Could cz be moving to the source engine? Could they be using cz's release as a trial run of a commercial game release via steam in advance of hl2? the cs 1.6 beta release via steam was commical.

Oh yeah and also Gooseman was meant to be at e3 but was apparently too busy working on an unspecified project at the time.

In my mind it makes no sense to release cz in it's advertised state within a month of hl2. To play it multiplayer there will be a free update to current CS. Very few people will shell out for a single player game on the hl1 engine 3 weeks before the release of hl2, it makes no sense. Can someone with more brains than me tell me if they can spot a link?

hmm, what u said makes a lot of sense...

that would be awesome of CZ ran on Source!

/me ignores

Another company also worked on CZ.

CZ will be released on Steam as a retail product the same time it hits the shops.

CZ is not going to be the multiplayer of HL2 if that's what you were implying. CZ is a singleplayer expansion to CS. CZ will be backwards compatible with CS in multiplayer. All new content will be available in CS, CS players can play with CZ players and vice versa. No one would be pleased to see CSCZ as their HL2 multiplayer.

Gooseman is working on CS2 and has been since Valve took over the development of CS1.

I'm not gonna buy it, and even if they release it on Source in six months, I'm not gonna buy it. Kazaa is your friend.

I know cz is primarily a single player game but the only multiplayer advantage it has over normal cs is the gfx, why then put them into steam beta for free?

I just can't see the sense in releaseing cz at all, as a mulitplayer game people will do the free upgrade to bring cs in line with it and as for single player hl2 will kick it's arse. It's also got to compete with pc halo and other titles.

I do think valve could try a commercial release of cz via steam as a test run for hl2 and if it's a disaster most of the blame could easily be moved onto ritual.

Personally, I dont even think its worth moving CZ to Source. They should have released it earlier... Mods for Source will most likely put it in a very dark corner of a room. If moving it, it would be a new game, for example CS2.

I'm not going to buy it, and I'm certainly not going to warez it. Not really my cup-o-tea, and frankly I wish the project had never existed. It just seems kinda silly, and it's been through so many people's hands at this point, no to mention that it will be overshadowed by modern games, that I can't imagine it's going to be all that successful. If Valve is really going to be spending time with it... that's bad. Real bad.

But I don't think 1.6 via steam was laughable. It was a beta test for the benefit of testing the system.

Well, I've seen CZ reviewed. Whether it's released is, of course, a different matter but it'd seem strange to not release it when its essentially finished. But maybe a port to Source would be for the best.

Oh, and Chris_D - were one to hypothetically download CZ off Kazaa, what kind of hypothetical file size ould make hypothetical sense to you? One would not wnat to download a very large bundle of virii/an incomplete program. Although it would, of course, serve a person hypothetically right for their illegal activities. Htypothetically.

2 things,
1. U have rekindled my memory about ghost writer
2. What is a mIRC, where do i get it, how do i use it
3. TURD BURGLAR: A pooper who does not realize that you are in
the stall and tries to force the door open. This is one of
the most shocking and vulnerable moments that occur when
taking a dump at work. If this occurs, remain in the stall
until the TURD BURGLAR leaves. This way you will avoid all
uncomfortable eye contact.

El_Chi, generally one wouldn't use Kazaa at all, they would possibly venture out into the spyware free world of Kazaa Lite/Kazaa K++ at www.kazaa-lite.tk. Then one would find a link on that aforementioned website to a site called Verified Downloads which is a large database of files that are fully functional and verified as good, safe and reliable downloads. With regards to the file size, one would not yet know, but I do believe that eventually there would be a CD Image file, otherwise known as a .ISO, .BIN which are usually in the range of 550-800MB. Then of course there could be a compressed .exe archive instead which would be slightly smaller.

Would one like to come round for tea and cake?

People who play the normal version of CS (I imagine it's going to be CS 1.7) that encorporates CZ will not get any graphical enhancements. The only new models they'll get will be of the new player models i.e the new player classes will have new models, the old weapon classes will stay the same; and also they'll obviously get the new weapon's models too - the LAW rocket launcher and the other one(?). If people want to play CS on a better graphics engine that runs a little faster, with all the new eye candy they'll have to buy CZ.

CZ via Steam will not be free.

Yeah and that's the problem. Who would buy it? People KNOW there are Source mods coming... Unless its using Source and is HL2->HL compatible (you could play in HL2 against people with HL) it isnt worth getting another engine just for that, inferior at that. Doubt netcode is compatible though, so fat chance on that :)

Yeah I know the graphical improvements to cs will only be via purchase of cz, trust me I've been follwing cz through all it's forms for a couple of years now. I realise i have trouble making myself understood in english, I'm from yorkshire...

Putting cz purchased only graphical updates out onto the internet into a free beta test used mainly by people who are desperate to upgrade their free cs doesn't make much sense to me.

This discussion now has very little to do with hl2. I can sense a hypothetical move to the steam forums or some such now.

Ghost writer was class, I wanted one of their pens and note books ;-)
