Why is it so popular, can someone please explain why you would want to listen to records being scratched, munted voices on symphonizes that sound like cats being run over or anything else that sounds like a modem dialling up?

Please don't reply saying "It's all deep meaningful music you don't know what your talking about. Please next time actually research the lyrics of great Computer created songs like Crazy Frog and the Hamster Dance. You will find that they have many political and meaningful messages in them."

there's something decent from every genre, i believe. when you speak about crazy frog, (and i'll assume you're speaking of mainstream techno) i think it's a crappy generic beat; but when you talk about stuff like destiny sunrise by catcher, i think it's an awesome song - because of the pure cool musical factor. it depends on your taste obviously. i can't see what's good about the type of electronic music you describe either, but one can't see what's good about something they don't like.

Eh.. I've never heard anything that sounds like that.

Music made by computers? Don't you mean music made by artists using computers and digital software as a tool to create their music?

I don't know where to begin, honestly.. I seriously don't understand this aggrivation against "computer" music. It's not easier to make, you need all the music theory and structure knowledge, you need to be able to play at least one instrument (the keyboard), you need the knowledge that usually is split between an entire band, creating beats (there's more complicated stuff out there than 4 to the floor beats), bass, various additional instruments and simply a musical ear.

Some electronic music contains more emotion than anything I've ever heard from mainstream music where a couple of guys play their instruments in an incredibly cliché way, the melody from this and that is always borrowed from some other song, and lyrics that practically shove the meaning of the song down your throat instead of some music letting you find the meaning yourself and what you associate the song with.

But the truth is, there's something in every kind of music, I like things from all genres. It's just that I'm more fascinated by some electronic genres and I'm trying to learn making it myself (and it's not ****ing easy, so shut up about electronic music being something you can create by pushing a few buttons). I'm playing the piano and currently I'm also learning to play the acoustic guitar, and I honestly don't see why so many people don't recognize electronic music but instead downgrade it simply because it's electronic.

There's just so much of it, something always appeal to someone.

And seriously, things like "Crazy Frog" and "hamster dance" aren't music.

you cant be serious.. crazy frog .. deep and meaningful. no really you are joking.. arent you?

either that or you are under the age of 10 and dont really understand the concept of making music. no one in thier right minds would ever consider putting the crazy frog next to music, let alone put it in the same catagory.
"rofl" crazy frog is deep and meaningful "lmaorofl"

how do you find meaningful lyrics from; "MEEP ME ME ME meee meeep mee mee meep meep meer meer bah bah bah bah"?

god i hate ringtones, bane of the century

Yeah lol that's what I thought a few weeks ago, I used to listen to music if it only had guitars it in. Now I find myself listening to all kinds of music. I'm listening to Messer Chumps right now, a band from russia and they mix surf guitars with sound effects, samples and whatnot. Great music. You can't simply dismiss a form of music because you've only heard Crazy Frog.

Look a little harder.

Uhh he wasn't saying that crazy frog is deep and meaningful. He basically said "Don't tell me some bullshit like 'Crazy Frog is deep and meaningful.'"
You basically just agreed with him
And for the record, anyone who uses 'rofl' and 'lmaorofl' on a regular basis is most likely also under the age of ten

rofl meanin in crazy frog....crazy frog is hear to annoy you all but at the same time make its creater richer and richer

Bearing in mind that "normal" instruments were at some point dead cats on wood, or metal lumps with valves, whats the problem. The tool used to create a sound is irrelivent, the important factor is the sound itself, and like every single other peice of expression, it is a case of opinion.

In answer to your question, no one would, but no techno sounds like a cat being run over or a modem dialing. You may not like it, but it does have a sound and it is enjoyable to those with a taste for it.

Why would you like to listen to guitars when they all sound the same? Why would you want the same verse/chorus formula over and over again? Why do you want lyrics? These are stupid questions.

First of all, your classification of computer music (I'm assuming your talking about electronic music in general) is really narrow since it encompasses a broad range of sounds, and that you reference only "Crazy Toad" and some other inane song, I can only come to the conclusion that you've been seriously closed out from the genre.
Personally, I like the sound of things being ****ed up. I like voice samples ravaged and sliced to pieces. I like the sound of breaking. I like the glitchy little blips and clicks. I'll listen to "modem sounds" if they're implemented in a unique and interesting fashion. I enjoy these things because they're unconventional, bizarre, and interesting to my ears. Rather than limiting oneself to the traditional and familiar, I take more pleasure in the bizarre and unnatural.
Lastly, what matters is the artist behind the machines, just like an artist behind a guitar or drumset. An instrument or a program cannot turn a shit artist into a prodigy. You still rely on strong musical composition, skill, and an ear for quality.

Moby is techno. Moby has two sentences being repeated all the time. And still, it's great music. How come?
Artists. Not computers.

Bingo.

I read my own post ten times to find out where I said or implied that it was easier to make and I did not find it. I also looked for the part where I said "All techno music is bad, EVERY SINGEL TECHNO SONG IS BAD!" and I did not find that either. I am not putting down all techno music, I'm sure that if you sifted through all the garbage you'd find good music. Basically I wanted to know why people like listening to the ones that are really popular at the moment like Moby and all that crap. EG I think I look cool by listening to it, it is like rock music to me, I can relax to it etc...

I liked "Lift Me Up", it had a good flow and I liked the whole sound, especially in the chorus. Still, there are much better artists out there than moby, there's a shitload of golden gems outside of the mainstream.

Rebel9 has great ambient stuff, you should check out his music.

Don't get irritated with us just because you were vague as all hell with your initial post. You specifically said "computer music" and then you referenced Crazy Frog. There is no other way to interpret your topic except as a bash against... well, computer music.

MAKE SENSE, DAMMIT. Moby like rock music? What the ****?

Perhaps they listen to Moby because they like it. Asking them why they do is pointless. I'm sure that if you listed off the artists you listen to, you'd get some people calling it crap and wondering why you waste your time with it.

Man, people just like it. Why do you listen to whatever the hell it is you listen to? There's no one reason, it's just personal preference

I'm sure I would but if someone asked me why I liked to listen to them with out a doubt I would be able to answer that question with a simple answer such as "I can relate to the lyrics, I can relax to it, it allows me to let off steam." Maybe it's just me but I seriously doubt that anyone likes a particular song or artist for absolutely no reason at all. That would be like "I like Half-Life 2." "Why?" "I don’t know." There must be a reason why he/she likes it. BTW I obviousley asked why people like to listen to techno songs because I want to know why. Why are you saying that asking them why is pointless?

So in your opinion if someone said "I hate Asians." that means that they hate every single Asian that ever existed and not Asians in general. It was in fact a bash against Techno music in general, great work, very observant. Have you ever considered becoming a detective, or are you already one?

Oh, I dunno. Maybe because they relate to their music? Maybe because they like the way it sounds? They find it fun? Yeah, asking them is pretty pointless because they probably listen to their music for the same reason you listen to yours: they enjoy it.

Hating asians in general would still be very ignorant, dipshit. Don't get snappy with me just because you chose a some shitty diction. Your bash against techno music is still a stupid and ignorant one.

Steven, you're way too self centered to be able to have a reasonable conversation with anyone holding a different view than you.

You think electronic music is crap, we don't. Do you get it, or do we have to make it even more clear?

goa kicks ass, honestly. it's pure hippie.. awesome.

yeah, it's my favorite at the moment. di.fm's goa station = teh win. also philosomatika.

My brother makes trance music. He likes it. He also likes children. He's in a prsim now. I mean prison. But if I say that, the bad men make him pick the soap up :(

The first two sentences are true, the rest is lies. Do I go to gaol for lies?

It's not that I have nothing more to say but I can't be botherd having a flame war with the entire forum because they have diffrent musical tastes, so i'll just rap it up here. If you would like to argue like a mindless ten year old talk to somone else.

Hating asians in general would still be very ignorant, dipshit.
I diden't say it wasn't I totally disagre with rascism, it's just an example and a bad one at that.

There are obviousley many diffrent reasons why they enjoy techno music there are many diffrent reasons why I enjoy the music I listen to. I know they enjoy it but I want to know why.

I'm sorry if any bad grammar or spelling was used I was in a rush at the time of posting.

Why should there have to be a why? The reasons I mentioned earlier should suffice, but it's not like they're required. They enjoy it just because they do, just like some people enjoy rock music just because it appeals to them for some unknown reason.

Questioning that is an exercise in futility.

Electronic music is not techno. Techno is a sub-genre for kcuf's sake!
youre wasting your breath. ive said that about 400 times and the noobs keep calling everything techno.
Check this site out and you'll notice how many different genres there are http://www.ishkur.com/music/#
tbh all that sub sub sub sub genre stuff is bollocks.
and thesteven, nobody listens to things like crazy frog except annoying little kids.

Sadly I know one or two people that are 19 and love stupid music like Crazy Frog. It's sad.

Btw, I quite liked the original Axel F when it came out, only because of the movie though. hehe.

I don't think it's "sub sub sub" stuff so much as it is an indicator of what lead to what.

im talking about descriptions like 'epic trance', 'anthem trance', 'ibiza trance' etc. its just unnecessary. commercial trance, hard trance, trance, tech trance and psy trance are enough.
and fyi there are a lot of wrongly defined tunes in his guide, which isnt supposed to be a serious guide anyway and doesnt really help noobs much at all.

Yeah, it's more of a silly subjective "this is what i think of this kind of music" statement. Funny nonetheless, but not very helpful for people new to electronic music.
