i dont want a simple drum beat or mixing, or midi program, im wondering what program you composers use to create orchestral/classic music with... decent quality? and if possible to show any songs youve composed.
Yeah fl studio is very good. Ive been using it for years, although i produce hard/tech trance and techno.
For top quality productions you will need to get some vstis such as atmosphere (a sample based synth) or reaktor, but theyre expensive. Maybe something like crystal which is free, would do the job well enough. Another option is a sample pack, which are numerous on the net but not always good quality or soundfonts.
Using samples isnt a very good idea due to the problems that come with pitching (unless its multisampled of course). The samples that come with fl mostly suck so you definitely shouldnt use them.
Since having/using illegal copywrited software is against the forum rules and will recieve a ban, my friend got fruityloops using bittorrent, he tells me it works well.
FL Studio is a good start, but like anything, working to make something tangible within the chosen musical style will take a lot of work.
There are three ways to go about it:
1. Synthesizers
2. Samples
3. A combination of synthesizers and samples
With orchestral music, generally samples are a godsend. They sound the most realistic and natural right out of the box. But alone, dry samples can sound harsh. So having a good hold on reverb and making things sound "real" is something that is very important (of course, this takes a good ear, experience, and a _lot_ of experimentation).
I rarely use synths to make orchestral stuff; I add only subtle phrases and textures here and there. That's my own personal style though, other people prefer synths (even though I still think the end result of using mostly synths sounds artificial and cheesey).
