Report by Earl Danish.
‘Crazy Frog’ is a eardrum-aware audible worm that exploited a well-known vulnerability (in human brains) to infect thousands of people in May 2005. Symptoms in particularly bad cases include extreme annoyance and pointlessly aggresive outbursts.
With a payload based around a bastardised version of Harold Faltymeyer's 80s code 'AxelF' the infection rate has been officially been rated by SARC as scary.
AP reports that German prosecutors have picked 30 European city governments and a broadcaster whose populations and equipment were disrupted by Crazy Frog as specimen victims in the prosecution against the creators of this new form of audio virus. These organisations were selected from the 1500 plaintiffs with estimated damages of $12 billion who have contacted the authorities.
All indications are that this is the tip of a very large iceberg.
