Which would be the better mouse to purchase? I know the MX1000 is a lazer mouse which is very precise. And I know that the MX518 has on-the-fly dpi which means I can change it from 800, 1200, and 1600. Which would be the better mouse to have? I love wireless. It gives me the freedom to go where I please pretty much. Although, they need to be recharged, and they weigh a decent amount more than a wired mouse.

Bottom line.. Which is better for the price? I can get an MX518 for ~$49, or I can get an MX1000 for ~$55.

Anyone have any suggestions or reviews comparing the 2 mice, feel free to post them. :)

Thanks guys.

Get the mx1000... much better mouse with a good feel. The 518, i dont see the point in the dpi change... i'd personally never use it, crank it up to full and leave it there.

See that is the thing. I would probably use it the on-the-fly dpi once or twice in my life. Plus, I love the look of the MX518. While the MX1000 is so perfectly precise and has also a good look to it.

Go to a best buy or Compusa and see the difference between them. Actually put your hand on them and see what you like better.

I had an MX700 and that is the same shape as the MX518. It was a really nice mouse. I actually just traded in my MX duo set for the new MX3100 keyboard/mouse combo and I like the MX1000 a little better. It has a nice place to rest your thumb and it fits my hand really well.

Recharging is never an issue. The MX1000 has a light that tells you what the status of the battery is. And even with the MX700 if the light was blinking red after I had been using it for the whole day, I could put it on the charger for 5 mins and then continue to use it.

I had an MX700. I liked the shape of it. Although, it did weigh a comparable amount to my generic, wired mouse I have now. I would rather not have a mouse that weighs a ton.

I'd stick with wired - playing games with a wireless mouse is like playing drunk, you're two seconds behind the game :|

Actually the MX1000 uses FastRF which has been proven to achieve its claim of being as fast a response as a wired mouse ... so ner.

I can vouch for it too, I had a M$ Optical mouse for about 2 years and thought it would be hard to find a mouse to beat it, but the MX1000 'pwnz' it all over.

I like the multibutton feature on the Logitechs better. So I might as well stick with them.

ive gto a mx1000, pretty good. takes a while to get used to the weight.
battery takes about 1 hour to charge from dead. and i always for get to charge it.

but coming from a microsoft wired, i was quite happy.

Well, if the mx1000 is only 6 bucks more, I'd go for that one. Also, I really don't see a difference between wired and wireless mice(?) in terms of response. I mean, if you are going to pay $55 for a wireless mouse, I'd think you would be getting a top notch mouse, not some cheap mouse that takes 2 seconds to send a signal (which I have never heard of).

shhhh its badger propaganda

i have used the wireless MX700, or was it MX500, but neways, its a decent mouse, nice fit on your hand, and ive never noticed any lag with it.cost like £55 or so.
and if th ebattery runs out, you can charge it for less than a minute and it will work until the end of the round.
if im not mistaken, its 10 minutes or an hour charging = 10 hours or 10 days normal usage. whichever makes more sense.
unlike my electric toothbrush, which takes 24 hours to charge for 12 minutes use :|

I haven't decided yet, but I will soon enough. I will still be looking for a bit since it is not my number one priority at the moment.

I heard the charge on the MX1000 is about 1 hour for a couple of weeks usage or something of that sort. Which would be perfect, I mean I would charge the mouse when I am not using the computer which a lot of people do.

I don't really want to be bogged down by a wire. So right now, I am leaning more towards purchasing the MX1000. But like I said, I have patience. :) So I might not be buying it for a month tops.

I would still like to hear user opinions/hardware reviews about each mouse.

My MX1000 does last a couple of weeks on a single charge. I can't remember when I charged it last, and its still on 2 bars out of 3. It's not like charging it is a chore either, you just drop it into its holster before you go to bed.

Some people say the weight is an issue, but I guess that depends what surface you're moving it around on. I've got mine on my desk (no mousemat) so it just glides easily, weight isn't an issue at all.

Definately a great gaming mouse, and the best all-rounder i've seen yet. It's worth the extra money, it'll last you a long long time.

I read on a review and it said that the battery lasts for up to 15 years for the mx1000 and can generally last about 2 weeks with no charging. I would definetly get that one, heck, now I want to get one, but I don't have any money.

so why does my toothbrush only last 12 minutes on a 24 hour charge?

the MX series mice just have an amazing feel to them, should help with your headshots :sniper:

your maknig me want an MX1000 now :naughty:
great way to spend my tax return

I doubt your toothbrush uses the same battery or charging circuits as the MX1000 :)

the onyl complaint i have about my it, is that on one area on my desk where the varnish has very lightly bubbled, and it can read properly over it, where my optical can. but oh well.

also if you get one, dont rember the little plastice at the bottom, you would be amazed the shit that can get into the little hole for the lazer

My batteries in my 3 year old MX700 are getting old and the life is getting shorter and shorter every few months. But on one charge now I can do a full day of web browsing. With gaming and web browsing I get about 10 hours then it wants a recharge generally. But on my newer MX700 I got last year it can play games past 12 or 13 hours fine, etc. Battery life dies after 2 years on them though, only complaint, still loving it. MX1000 will be an upgrade for my one pc once my older MX700 dies.

You just can't compare this 2 mice. 518 is 10 times cooler. Especialy when it's used on Steelpad's surface. The same glidence as in 1000 but much more cheeper.

i just ordered an MX1000 yesterday, then saw this thread, i'll try to remember to let you know how it goes - i currently have a mid-range logitech cordless optical mouse and the only reason i'm upgrading is cause i've run out of buttons on and need one for my now pretty much deskbound laptop:D

Even the 318, i sure as hell can't tell the diff. Why spend more? My e-penis is bulging as it is.

What does the dpi thing do actually? Does it make the mouse more precise? Or faster?

well as promised it came today and first impressions are good. it doesn't pause when you take it off the desk even for 10 seconds at a time, it does track better than the other optical mouse i have on my shiny desk surface and it is very comfortable to hold (i had another logitech before this one) - the only not so good thing is the software, which is currently using 10MB of ram just to do nothing, the mouse works fine without it so i doubt i'll be using it - all it all well worth the money so far

The dpi is how much movement it can capture at a time. If you turn down the dpi it makes it less sensitive.

I've got an MX1000 lazer mouse and in the 1 - 2 month's i've had it i can't fault it, never has it gotten so out-of-power that i've had to stop what i'm doing on my PC to recharge it because it lasts for AGES!! literally like a week's use (for me at least, depends how much you play games...) from one charge which takes about 4 hours out of the box.

The weight of it is noticable at first, because i came from a corded MS intellimouse and that was super light but you get used to it. The feel of the mouse is amazing, i love the thumb rest and it just feels as if it was moulded from my hand because it fits perfect :)

I'd say get the MX1000 because even logitech themselfs say that the MX1000 is 20x more precise than there optical mice, which i know is probaby exagerated but they would'nt say it if they didn't think it was better than there optical mice now would they :p Anyway yeah, get the MX1000. Great mouse.

Not really, it has a cord for one...

...And also518 (£46.94) or MX1000 (£46.98)...i'd quite happily pay an extra 4p for a mouse that is cordless and more precise.

The 518 has better tracking. I use the dpi switch to lower the dpi when i'm sniping.

As far as i'm aware the MX1000 has 10x better tracking....it works on shiny surfaces and even Glass. Two surfaces optical mice never work on.

The battery is a Lithium-ion battery, it's a new type of battery which is not supposed to have a 'memory', meaning it will never need discharging unlike NI-CD and NI-MH batteries (i know all about batteries, i raced electronic pro-RC cars for over 2 years and the best ones was NI-MH batteries at the time i did it) and will, with luck, last forever, they can also hold more charge than older batteries.

well the ipod battery is lithium-ion, as are most cellphones these days- i don't see them lasting for ever. Maybe a year or two at most for an ipod. High drain device tho.
