My 1st map.

I know it sucks, but TY. Not in the HL2 mapping mood, ganna play HL2DM.

I also make maps for Medal of Honor Allied Assault if anyone here plays that on the side, or used too.

EDIT: Nuker, I am going to try and add more as I go along, such as bigger rooms with support beams, windows, frames, etc. Just more brush detail.

you make maps for Medal of Honer Allied Assault?
tutorials please :D

yeah your map does need some good detail but... it's not too bad for your first map
no one expects alot from peoples first maps ;)

You play AA? It's been a while, and im young and stupid. I can help, but dont expect me to teach you good stuff, I cant do anything but the basic map, I dont know how to do the scripts or anything. Check out my current map here.

(told you im not that good)

Ceiling seems pretty low.
Nice texture work though.

nice for a first map- just lift the celling (remember in games make things higher than they are in reality if you want them to look normal)

Wow that doorway is just horrible. Where have you ever seen a square tunnel leading out of a square room?

You just saying it sucks and it is horrible, how is that suposed to help me make it better, you could say like, fix the hall way a little or something. :|

But besides you, thanks all for the helpfull feedback.

Christ, don't get me started with "helpful" feedback crap, seriously you're talking exactly the same as about 20 other mappers who have come here and showed off their crappy map, gotten feedback, bitched about the meanies, and then got banned because they can't get it through their THICK skull that their map looks like shit.

Besides, that's not even a map, that's a room that anyone could make in about 5 minutes.

Raise the ceiling (128units is standard for wall textures), add an env_cubemap in the room, add more prop_static/physics_prop, add some windows/more brush detail like you said, better lighting and more detail with point entities (func_dustmote), continue the room so it's more of a map.

Like I said, there is more than a room, I just didnt finish the other parts of the map when I took the pics, and I know it sucks and is a simple map. I didnt come here to be an ass or get banned, just if theres something wrong just maybe say how I can make it better instead of just being like it stinks... Maybe if you tell me how to fix it, next time I show pics it will be better, but I dont want to start a flame war, so im done with the whinning. I'll add some windows, more detail, and make it bigger when I get back from NH. It's just the scale, took me for ever to find out the scale of walls and stuff to the player. what I do sometimes to help, or used to, now I know it, but before I used to put a player start entity just to see how big the walls are im making. The first map I made was a box, that was like the size of a city because I didnt know the scale lol. But more updates soon, and more detail etc.

Texture work seems to be the best, though we can't see how proficient you are with such basic geometry.

I would recommend add a base to the wall, a small border that sticks out around the bottom (as most real walls have). Try and make the room a bit more complex - make the ceiling a bit higher, and maybe stick some geometry up there instead of just having it flat (put rafters or support beams across it, etc).

And just stick a player start entity in so that you can see how tall a human is in order to get scale right.

im just not sure how telling someone they suck or that their map sucks is constructive. maybe its a psychology thing, but im just not seein it.

by the way...not many here really know how to give constructive criticism...Then flame-wars start. You're young, you'll learn

And it seems to be a trend that Dead-Inside is the first to blast - have a look at his first map and his comments about others...hmm... (By the way, dont start flaming me for that - i speak the truth and you know it)

Why the hell do you bring me into it?

It was constructive, the "square path" out of the room is horrible. A doorway would make such a big difference. It's only 3 more brushes if you want to keep it as simple as possible, plus another 3 on the other side of course.

Anyway, **** it. Interlopers is so much better than halflife2.net when it comes to mapping.

Yeah by people saying that I suck at 3d modeling put me off... hey Sudano I have added you to my msn list if you want some help with your map :)

One reason that it doesn't look realistic is because there are no skirtings on the bottom of the wallpaper. I also think the ceiling's way too low, if you make it higher you'll probably realise that the wallpaper texture has a skirting on it already.

yea..I wouldn't use this forum for your first maps. People like Pesmerga and Dead like to annoy the hell out of anyone new. Although, the posts that are already here are the best you'll find. And just a note, I don't have anything against Dead-Inside, as if you ignore all the sh*t he throws at you, he has some good advice.

i wouldn't say that sucks! that's pretty good for your first map, and everybody starts somewhere, don't tell yourself it sucks, just take all the tutorials you can, and work your hardest, but for your first map that's pretty cool

It's pretty simplistic, but you've got better texture work in that than most of the maps I've seen downloaded onto my computer after a session of HL2DM on a custom server.

I have a feeling you're going to do well with mapping.

I don't know if anyone mentioned but I see you havn't done cubemaps. They are pretty simple and make things look a lot better.
