This is more for the original half life, don't know if I should really post it here, but meh...
Anyway, I really don't have a title for this, and I only have the first chapter. I'd like to compare my first chapter with the "tram ride" in HL1, sort of an intro.
Please post your comments :)
Chapter 1: Misgivings
Tony Jones sat in his recliner in his north Phoenix home, watching the evening news. ABC news was playing a clip of President George W. Kerry's speech earlier that day.
“The rumors of a science experiment at a military testing zone called 'black mesa' are entirely false. I've never even heard of such a place, nor would there be any risky experiments going on there. Whoever came up with this idea is surely laughing at the people who have been bought into this notion. That is all there is to say on the subject,” the President said, a broad smile across his wrinkled face.
Tony turned to his wife, Joan, who was seated with his daughter, Kaylee, on the sofa.
“I'd like to believe him, I really would,” Tony said.
“What's daddy talking about, mum?” Kaylee asked.
“Uh, Kaylee, why don't you run outside and play for a bit, I'll call you back for supper,” Joan replied.
Reluctantly, Kaylee got up and left the room. She turned and glanced back at her parents, with a nervous look on her face.
“Go on, Kaylee,” Tony said.
She turned, opened the door, glanced outside, looked back, then walked out.
Tony turned back to Joan, who sighed heavily.
“I know what you mean about not believing Kerry. You can tell he's lying through his teeth. But what is he trying to hide?” Joan asked.
“I don't know, I really don't. Ever since that radio message yesterday, I don't know what I can believe.”
Tony was referring to a message that was broadcast on all FM channels the previous day. It was from a man who sounded frantic, and terrified. All that could be heard was “Help! It's gone wrong!”, followed by some muffled shouts, a loud scream, and momentary silence. A second voice came on.
“Black mesa needs help immediately. Anyone that can hear this, we need assistance!”
That was followed with a shout, and programming returned to normal. Of course, thousands of people heard the message, but no one knew how to interpret it. Radio stations quickly put out a notice of a computer hacker that had somehow hacked into numerous radio station's computers, and simultaneously sent that message out on all the FM stations. No one was fooled, especially after a smoke cloud had risen high into the eastern sky that night. It appeared for about ten minutes before dispersing. Since then, rumors flew, but no one knew for certain what had occurred, if anything.
Tony sighed, and turned back to the TV screen, where a traffic reporter was discussing a tanker accident on a major highway.
“What if it is all just a rumor?” Joan asked.
“Then I'll be one heck of a happy guy,” Tony responded.
A shout rose from the yard, and Kaylee burst through the door.
“Daddy! Mommy! Come look!” she yelled, and ran back outside.
Tony and Joan ran after her, following her out onto the sidewalk. She was pointing at the southern sky.
They looked. Tony's heart skipped a beat. Joan gasped. The sky was black with hundreds, no, thousands of aircraft. Helicopters. Cargo planes. Jet fighters. Tony ran back inside and grabbed his binoculars. As he ran back outside, he saw his neigbors coming out as well. The streets were filling with curious onlookers. Two cars stopped, and the occupants climbed onto their car roofs for a better view. The number of planes grew in number. Someone standing on a rooftop gave a shout. Tony climbed the ladder leaning on his house, and ran to the roof's peak. He looked to the north. Another group of helicopters streaked in, moving fast and low. Attack helicopters.
“A rumor?” his neighbor laughed, “Best crap I've heard all my life.”
Tony nodded assent, continuing to stair at the planes' movement, as more came into view on the horizon.
“What the hell is going on? What could have gone that horribly wrong?” his neighbor asked.
“Only God knows, and I sure don't want to find out,” Tony said.
A group of police cars pulled up, and a group of cops jumped out. They drew their pistols and started shouting “Everyone, back in your homes, immediately!”
Tony ducked behind his chimney as his neighbors walked back to their homes, most glancing over their shoulders for a final look.
“Back into your homes and hide your windows. There's been a radiation leak and anyone outside is vulnerable!”
“Then why are you out here?” Tony's neighbor accused as he climbed off his roof.
“To keep you safe!” The officer shot back.
“What are the planes for?”
“Technicians!”
“Right, yes sir..”
“Bullcrap..” Tony muttered to himself. Those were Apache attack helicopters, he knew it, and he knew they weren't used to transport “Technicians”.
He continued watching the procession of aircraft for another minute or so, before the last disappeared from the horizon. The police had left, and his neighbors were coming back outside.
Tony climbed off his roof and walked inside his house. Kaylee was crying, and Joan was trying to soothe her. Tony walked over and kneeled in front of Kaylee.
“Kaylee, look at me,” Tony said.
She sniveled, and turned around.
“Kaylee, don't worry. Nothing's going to happen to you. We're safe here, we have been, we always will be. The government knows what it's doing. We can trust them. Okay, sweety?” he said, and smiled.
“Okay, dad..” she said, and tried to force a grin.
“Come on, all this doom and gloom on your birthday. Eh..how 'bout some cake?”
This brightened her mood.
Joan leaned over and whispered in his ear, “That was supposed to be saved for later!”
“I know,” he replied, “but I can't stand seeing her like that,” he said.
The TV flashed a display of the mayor, who stood tall, but not resolute behind his podium.
“The reports of a group of aircraft flying overhead are being grossly exaggerated!” he said, feigning forcefulness.
“There were at most 50 transport craft. Anymore than that are people's imaginations getting the better of them. An attitude of this nature will cause nothing but harm. This was a standard operation, a training run is underway in New Mexico. No further explanation is needed,” he said.
With that, he turned on his heel and walked out of the room, ignoring a flurry of questions and accusations.
Tony turned to his wife and sighed. Then the three of them walked into the kitchen, and sat down to attempt to enjoy some cake.

oooh nice story
but i recommend some paragraphs so its easier to read
yay! bullsquid :D

Interesting. I like the way it is going. I can't wait to see how you tie this in with Half Life. Be neat to see how things look like on the outside. I wonder if Tony is going to Black Mesa.

Sorry I haven't updated it :-\
Hopefully I'll get Chapter 2 done soon.
