Why oh why do my cable internets slow down as they do. I just got it today and my speed is 70kb/s. I mean come on, isn't cable supposed to be like 600kb/s? I will give a piece of bread smeared with easy cheese :naughty: to the first person to tell me what in the world is going on.

I'll tell you what's going on if you give me your PC.

It all depends on the speed of your cable internets. Mines 2Mb, so i download at like 250KB/sec.

It sounds like you got 512Kb/sec internet connection.

Nah, i doubt it'd be the on board lan. It all depends on what connection speed you ordered. If it's 512Kb/sec, that's what you get.

Oh and i meant 512Kilobits not KiloBytes.

To work out how many KiloBytes you should be downloading at, take the connection speed and divide it by 8. (e.g a 1Mb connection would be, 1024/8 = about 128KB/sec)

Hope that made sense... :/

Well on there it says "Download up to 3Mb/s" Which means there are probably a number of speeds you can obtain from them. Just depends on which one you ordered. If you did order the 3Mb/sec one, then there may be something on your computer clogging up your internet.

I believe that they only offered the one service, which was 3mbs. I am not getting even close to that.

Well, make sure you dont have any other downloads going. Make sure theres no problems like steam, which may be downloading/updating content. Also, you may just be downloading from a slow server, or from another country maybe.

I'm downloading from steam and the download speed is 119 kb/s. could the speed be due to high traffic?

That's not entinrely true. I have a 3mb connection and the max I've downloaded at is 1.5gigs a second. Not joking. But it all depends on the host.

everyone shut up i actualy know the answer to this question. The wires used in cable connections are made of copper (i think), but anyways whatever there made of moisture in the air or in the ground ****s up your connection. So when the weather gets shitty so does your connection. Yeah....Merry Christmas my ass...

Yeah, but that wasn't constantly all through the download was it? (granted, going at that speed, the download wouldnt be very long :p)

Well, Got it working correctly. I called the company and they said that there was the wrong file installed or something. Sweet download speed of light.

No, no, it was constant... I was just sad because I downloaded a 18MB video. Wish it was something bigger... but it all depends on the host...

Firefox's download speed indicator is screwed (at least in the old versions), for the split second after the download starts the speed is like, really high. I took a screenshot once and it said 12GB per second. w00t.

If you're guaging by how steam handles your connection, don't. Use something else like a CNet test or just something else :p

I have a 5MB connection, and steam will use anywhere from 256KBPS to 3MBPS, depending on it's mood :p

Oh and I should tell you that the CNet test is really innacurate. It told me that I have a T1 connection. My ISP has a test and i'll give you a link as soon as I can find it. That's really accurate. Gave me a 4.8.

EDIT: This isn't it, but it's the same applet as my ISP uses. I too am on a cable connection

my PC is better, lol. It slows down in the winter because the "1's" and "0's" start to freeze. The "1's" freeze faster because they are thinner than the "0's" so the "1's" slow everything down. Try to download as many "0's" as you can. jk, just one of the jokes my teacher says about the ones and zeros. He says "Don't kink the cable, the ones cant make sharp turns, the zeros get through fine though!" I think probably cause when it's cold...people don't want to go out so they stay home and download TONS of pr0n.
