These guys a are good! Dont know if you guys heard of them but they cam out with an album in 2002 and they just released another one not to long ago called Three Cheers for Sweet revenge.

You can watch thier music video "Helena" on iTunes and you can check out their website at http://www.mychemicalromance.com/

Like the music, dont like the image. Hence, I liked the original video for Im Not Okay much better than the new one. Trying too hard to have a certain image imo. Or something. I dunno, just something about the look I dont like.

I like them, but then all of sudden, all the trend whores are like "OMFG is this an emo band?! WOO! Let's listen to them and idolize a band we just heard of simply because they fit my current trend!" Makes me sad.

i like 'em, their music is pretty cool altho i've only listened to two of their songs

Yeah, I loved their first cd, which has been good for a few years now, and all of a sudden MTV comes along and BAM! everyone's like "check out this amazing 'new' band I found."

Don't like them. But we stood around outside our local venue t'other night and watched all the little angst kiddies swarm the tour bus. The band were so ignorant to their fans. They just ran past with their hoods up, surrounded by security, not even showing their faces for a photo or shaking someones hand. I can't stand it when bands are like that.

Holy crap... They pretty much blow. They whine, bitch and moan (like Simple Plan and Good Charlott) and they get lot's'o $$$ and chicks... but I might start listening to them since most hot emo/punk chicks listen to them. :(

I find the thing with My Chemical Romance is that they have some really good openings to their tracks... then all of a sudden they plunge into mediocre hooks and power chords. The video for Helena is hella cool; whether you like them or not, it's damn stylish.

I dont like them

they sound like another pop punk band like yellow card and simple plan that even if they hav some nice song I dont like them completly

still is they made nice song maybe I will change my mind

btw they hav a music video on a funeral?

Why is emo so popular in LA? seriously everywhere I turn there are emo kids. I admit I occasionaly listen to a couple of thier songs but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen ....I'd probably go out of my way NOT to listen to them.

Yeah that's Helena.

And emo's popular everywhere right now. All you need are thick rimmed glasses, a box of tissues and a battered copy of Catcher In The Rye and you're good to go (not making fun of Catcher In The Rye, love it, just saying). I can't stand the shite.

Yeah I don't get that either. Isn't being emo just to be cool kind of, well, NOT emo. Oh well, guess all the little trendies are finally growing tired of the whole "dress like a punk" phase and they've gotta target the next genre a music they feel the need to turn into a fashion show.

It looks like indie is next on their radar, thanks to the oc. Save me.

Emo is not cool, just popular. But trust me When I see emo kids that are being retarded and emo I usually go out of my way to give them a good beating.

Its a fad, it'll go soon thankfully.

Its funny, most of these kids claiming to listen to emo or being "emo" (like you could be a musical genre) don't even listen to real emo bands. I'm talking about bands like Fugazi, Cap'n Jazz, American Football, Husker Du, Joan of Arc.

There's nothing wrong with calling someone emo. Just like calling someone a punk.

And what bands exactly are you saying aren't emo here? Those are some really good emo bands there, but it's a pretty broad term. It didn't really come out of one particular sound. Mostly just anything from punk, indy, post-hardcore, etc. that replaces the high energy with emotionally driven vocals.

Well I don't like labels so I don't like calling people anything ;).

Emo came around about the mid 80's. Emo meant "Emotionally charged hardcore music". Which...I think you knew already unless I misread your post. And if you really want to go into it, any song with emotion in it could be considered emo, but we're not doing that so I'll keep using labels for music and soup cans. woot.

Personaly, I think these guys are pansies, along with the entire "emo" genre.

"I hate my parents because they don't give me money for the mall, so I'll start cutting myself and start doing drugs."

boo-hoo.....

Yeah I understand, and yes I know where it started. DC post-hardcore scene, emo-core, blah blah blah. Not that I guess I really care though, it's all still just music, and I refuse to let history, or a catch phrase decide whether I like/dislike a band. Which is why I guess I could really care less whether someone thinks a band is emo or not, because all that matters is whether or not they've found something they can enjoy. Hell, for all I care, someone could call a band like Sunny Day Real Estate disco if it floats their boat. As long as it's something they like to rock out to in the end.

Everything you said, seconded. Although I tend to really hate modern emo. Like it or not, music is organized by genres. But I agree with liking it no matter what it's called. Rock.

Probably because the more modern stuff is more popular in a growing scene, so it tends to be poppier and catchier to please the masses / become more radio and mtv friendly (i.e. My Chemical Romance, just so we don't get too far off topic here  )

Of course. I hate ska with a passion but...I listen to Reel Big Fish once in a while. If there's a good band/artist in the genre, I'll listen to it.

I wrote that much because i thought it was the most direct way of exprssing my opinions if i WERE emo i would go cry aboutmy hatred in a song.

EDIT: I prefer metal bands like Metallica, QOTSA, System of a down, Korn, Hypocrisy, slipknot etc.

LOL, yeah cause Korn is such a good example of a band that doesn't express feelings of hatred and depression in any of their songs.

It's such a lame stereotype that all emo bands do nothing but cry about their feelings of depression and whatnot in their songs. And it's not true for all of the bands that get lumped into the genre. It's like someone hating rap because all they do is rap about gangstas and hoes, when there's plenty of rap that doesn't.

i respect your point that some bands probably do fall into a sterotype but i have never heard a self-proclaimed "emo" band that doesnt cry about their problems

Or maybe we hate emo because they sound LIKE A PACK OF EPILEPTIC 3 YEAR OLD GIRLS? Besides, not every band HAS to express their feelings in a song. But if you bands out there are going to express your feelings in a song, don't sound like a bunch of whiny 12 year olds...

i agree...My chemical romance is the best example of little girl music...wearing pink eye makeup and dancing around the stage like a fairy is not good way to express yourself

again with the lame ass stereotypes of a genre you guys seem to know jack about.

wow taking lessons from a guy with the sig "I don't need no instructions to know how to ROCK!"

Why are you being so defemsive over emo anyways?
