Ok, you guys may remember my comp dying and me wondering wtf happened when I saw a wisp of smoke.

From then on, only my fan and fan lights would power on for an instant and then go dead (and only after unplugging and replugging the external power cord).

Now I received my RMA'ed motherboard and hooked everything back up. I go to turn the switch on for the power supply - it doesn't give me that instant flick of power, so I figure this is a good thing.

But, when I click the power button on the front of the case, it flicks the power on for the fans and lights for an instant and then goes dead.

Is this now a power supply problem? If so this is the 2nd power supply I've gone through in 2 years.

This is my PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194002

It definitely could be a PSU issue. Could be that the PSU was shorted. They have fail-saftey things in place so it can prevent it blowing up (fuse?). IDK
Try a different PSU or new one.

I just tried another PSU that I don't think is bad. Same thing. I think I'll go buy one tomorrow at Computer Renaissance or something. I'm f*cking sick of not having my comp. It's been like a month.

EDIT: Just tested that 2nd test PSU in my friend's computer and it turns it on...

This makes me think my PSU isn't the issue :|

Any ideas? I'd really like to avoid bringing it into be diagnosed for like $70.

That really sucks. Hope you can find out what is wrong. Have you tried just the CPU/motherboard with everything else disconnected?

Random thought, do you know the CPU fan works correctly? Maybe try plugging in a different fan into the motherboard for the CPU. Cause if the board isn't getting a signal (yellow wire) from the CPU fan, even if it is spinning (red/black wires are power), then it won't start.

Just before you posted this I unplugged my video card from my mobo. Now it fires up. Turns out my initial suspicions wayyy back when this all started was correct.

Hope that is your lead. Try a different GPU? Could be time for a new one.

I just filed an RMA request with Leadtek.

I'm gonna go to Best Buy tomorrow and buy a card on my credit card. When I get my new/repaired Leadtek GPU back from being RMA'ed I'll just return the Best Buy card.

It'll be a nice temporary free upgrade.
