my roomate touched it! I currently have a 160 gig HDD *primary..I know, I was crazy* and my 60 gig. I formatted the 60 gig, and was going to install Windows on it for a clean install. Well, shit hit the fan. My roomate decided he was gonna install it. He installs "System Commander" and works with it, then tries to change my 160 gig *FAT 32* to NTFS. Well, that doesn't work, I doze off. I come to a couple hours later, see no windows install, just him looking at my 160. he says he put the jumper on "Limit to 32 gigabytes" and everything was erased on the harddrive and it wont work. He then continued to "fiddle". Well, he went to work, I forgot about my computer, I just played AOE III on his...and I am now installing XP on the 60 gig while my 160 is at my fathers awaiting data recovery.

Anyway, the moral to the story? Don't eat Bran Muffins.

No, moral is that roommates are idiots.

I think that AmishSlayer can attestify.

Soooo... Why again isnt this in Hardware & Software?
o.O
This was a story about my day basically! Not about..uhh, kittens.
/kick.

I just don't let none of my family touch my computer if i'm doing something. They don't know nothing about computers and if i just say, "Don't touch the pc, it's doing something" they get all scared and daren't touch it in fear it might blow up :)

Unlucky though, Cyberpitz... Does everyone have dumb room mates here or something?

He's not dumb, just over zealous on things that he hears are awesome. Like System Commander. Bleh.

Hell, I woulda been COMPLETELY happy with just installing Windows XP on my 60 gig, then going from there...but noo we need partitions etc etc etc

I have two HDD's, a small HDD for windows and applications, and a much larger one for games (it needs a big HDD!), that way I can format one without effecting the other

i have a 40 10k rpm sata, and a 80 7200 rpm sata.

nobody touches my computer, because thats how stuff gets broken.

Watch over your pc with knife next time, newbie.

I slap anyone that tries to play with mine.

If you have warez on that 160 you will get teh arrestored.

Good day, sir.
:X Yikes.

I hope you don't, Pitzy.

Be more careful. You must have been really out of it.

oh yeah i think it was..... mah bad yo
wasn't me
there was LOTS of warez, why would I get "arrestored"?
I was pretty damn out of it, lack of sleep does that.
I didn't get owned...shit happens. There's ways to restore.

On that note, my dad told me there was NOTHING on the harddrive, clean format it seemed. So I'm gonna have a friends father *who also works on computers* do something he said should work. He runs a program that can still gather information off of a clean formatted harddrive *dunno how, but he can!* and see what he can get off from it. If there isn't anything, well..there went my life for 2 years!

Alright, just reinstalled/formatted again. This time I did it ><

Still having one serious issue. My video card drivers. I'll install the newest ATIs, but for some reason, the catalyst control center won't install. I'll try to run it, it will say an exception error stuffness. Yeah, so there's that out of the picture. Go into advanced display settings, it's not in there. I'm about to install BF2 and see if I still get some shitty frames.....

Just googled that prog and uh! crappy describes it rather well.

Partition Magic and Boot Magic for teh win!

My setup
---------
Maxtor 40gb - standard 8mb cache blah blah blah
Seagate Barracuda 160gb

Maxtor
------
C:\ 10gb
D:\ 30gb

Seagate
--------
E:\ 160gb

Sif you need more than 10gb for a system drive. Keep your rigs clean, that small 30gb partition holds a tonne of old small games I'll never get around to finishing.
